How to download and install Microsoft Office 2016 preview

Microsoft has released Public preview of its upcoming Office suite, Office 2016. It is free to download and anyone can try it out on their Windows PC. The new version includes several new features for home and business users. The final release of the Office 2016 is scheduled for Fall 2015.

Here are few things you should know before installing Office 2016 preview-

• Since it is an early preview version, it will not contain all the features which will be available in the final version. It is still a work in progress, however, Microsoft has promised to add new features to the preview version through monthly updates.
• The Office 2016 preview can be installed in Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.
• The Office 2016 preview will not run side-by-side with any previously installed office version. So you will need to uninstall your existing office suite before installing the Office 2016 preview. Uninstalling process is easy. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program, and uninstall the current office suite you are using.

Currently only an online installer of Office 2016 preview is available to download and install. So you will need a working internet connection to install the Office 2016 preview.

How to download Office 2016 Preview ?

If you have subscription to Office 365, you can get the Office 2016 preview via your account management page. You will have to-

• Log in to your Office My Account page
• Look for language and install options and Click it
• On the next screen Click Additional install options
• In the drop menu select the 32-bit or 64-bit Office 2016 preview

For non-Office 365 subscribers, you will need to install the Office 2016 from office 2016 product page.

• Visit https://products.office.com/en-us/office-2016-preview
• Scroll down and you will find download links for (32 bit) and (64 bit) versions of the Office 2016 preview. 
• Click the version of your choice (32 bit or 64 bit)
• After installation is complete you will need to activate the product. Use the key NKGG6-WBPCC-HXWMY-6DQGJ-CPQVG

For non-Office subscribers the preview is valid for 179 days after that you will have the option to purchase an Office 365 subscription or reinstall your current version using your original product key.

How To Revert Windows 10 Phone Preview Back To Windows Phone 8.1

Windows 10 Technical Preview for Phone is finally out, unfortunately for a select number of Lumia devices. However it is not going to be a smooth ride as the build is in its early stage and unfinished and there are high chances you will encounter bugs and face issues.

If things are not going the right way for you, for example phone stops working or is unresponsive, restarting your Lumia device will fix the problem. If still the problem presists, Microsoft has released Windows Mobile Recovery Tool that will allow users who installed the Technical preview to roll back to Windows Phone 8.1.

Steps to to roll back to Windows 8.1

1.Download the Windows Recovery Tool to your computer.
2.Connect your Windows Phone to the PC with the USB Cable. If your phone is not automatically detected, disconnect it from your computer and press ‘My phone was not detected’ at the bottom and follow the instructions on the screen.
3.After the phone is detected, tap the phone model on the screen to continue.
4.The next screen shows the available software versions. Tap the reinstall button at the bottom
5.There’s a disclaimer that suggests to back up your phone. Tap continue at the bottom.
6.The recovery tool downloads and installs the firmware. This may take a while depending on your network connection. The installation files are about 1.7 GB. Make sure not to disconnect the cable.
7.If all goes well, you get a message that says, “Operation successfully completed

List Of Known Issues And Workarounds In The Windows 10 Technical Preview For Phones

Microsoft today released Windows 10 technical preview for phones. However, keep in mind that the build is in its early stage and unfinshed software, so you can expect some bugs and issues. 

However Microsoft on its official blog posted list of know bugs and issues on the Win10 Technical preview for phones along with its workaround to fix some of the issues. Here's the list-

• Existing alarms will not be migrated to Windows 10. Workaround: Reset alarms after upgrade
• Wi-Fi settings don't roam when phone is upgraded to Windows 10. Workaround: Manually set Wi-Fi settings when on Windows 10
• VPN not available in current Windows 10 builds. Setting will fail to launch. Coming in a future update.
• Additional language keyboards may not be present and may not be able to install on US builds after upgrading to Windows 10. Workaround: Reopen the Windows Insider app and re-select Insider Fast/Slow again. The download of keyboard packages will then work
• Photos app will fail to launch periodically when attempting to add a photo attachment to an email, OneNote or Facebook item. Workaround: Try again. Succeeds after a few attempts.
• Quiet Hours is missing the automatic rule that enables Quiet hours during calendar appointments marked busy. Also the setting "Anyone breaks through if they call 2 times in 3 minutes" us unchecked but enabled.
• Apps are not displayed in Battery saver after the upgrade.
• Access Point Names (APNs) in recovery images can fall out of date. For some phones/networks, this will block the cellular data and MMS capabilities of a phone when recovering back to the base image. Workaround: Before using the Windows Mobile Recovery Tool to recover, record the specific APN settings on your phone. Set manually once phone restored
• Cellular data not working while roaming, despite enabling data roaming. Workaround : The setting doesn't work the first time it's enabled. Turning off and then turning on again will enable data while roaming
• Using a Bluetooth headset while playing back video results in low frame rate for video, due to a bug in the interaction between video playback and Bluetooth. Workaround: Use wired headset for listening to audio when playing videos.
• Sync to Microsoft Band doesn't work after updating to Windows 10. If you have your phone synced to Microsoft band, it will not pair after the update to Windows 10. Workaround: After upgrade to Windows 10, go to Bluetooth settings, un-pair the Microsoft Band device and re-pair it.
• DataSense resets data use history on upgrade to Windows 10. No workaround: Will calculate correctly after the reset.
• Trying to set lock screen picture will fail at times. Workaround: Re-attempt the operation.
• After upgrade, tapping on "Playlist" from start screen or from within Music App fails to play music. Playlists are greyed out.
• Cortana tile and settings are missing on the start screen after upgrade. Workaround: Go to app list and re-pin the tile

Microsoft today realeased Windows 10 Technical Preview for a some of its latest lumia devices - Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 730, and the Lumia 830.

Still Interested ? Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi and you have a battery backup of at least 40%

Here's how to get Windows 10 Technical preview for your Lumia devices.

1. To get started you will need to Download the Windows Insider App from Windows Phone store
2. Launch the app and login with your Microsoft account. Make sure you are enrolled in the Insider program. Visit insider.windows.com to enroll.
3. Choose between Insider Slow or fast. You can opt for Insider Slow' option if you wish to get reliable and slower updates or you can opt for 'Insider Fast' if you want to get the latest updates.
4. Accept the terms of the Insider program. Note that you may void your device's warranty by doing so.
5. Hit Check mark
6. Go to settings > Phone update > Check for updates > Update
7. Your Lumia device will start downloading the Windows 10 preview update.

• More Quick Actions in Action Center: We’ve increased the number of quick actions available to you. Windows Phone 8.1 has four programmable quick actions – but with Windows 10 you also get an expanded view that can now have up to three rows.
• Interactive Notifications: Notifications are now interactive, allowing you to take action directly like dismissing an alarm, or seeing images for maps. For example, for text messages, when the toast pops, you can quickly reply inline via text or voice.
• Significantly enhanced speech-to-text capability: You can talk to virtually any data field you choose. Your words show up as you speak them – and punctuation appears automatically.  This feature is smart enough to understand when to use ‘two’ – the number — instead of ‘too’ as in ‘also’.
