Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 series gets Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update


Sony has started rolling out Android 5.1 Lollipop update to Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 series. The firmware update is coming to Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet.

The update is being rolled out OTA (over-the-air) and users will be notified when the update is available for their Xperia Z2 or Xperia Z3 devices. Users can also manually check for the update by heading to the settings page (About Device>Software update>check for updates). Notably, Timing and availability of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update may vary by market and/or carrier.

Here's the list of what goodies Sony has offered in Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
  • Increased customisation options – so you have even more control over the way volume, silent modes and your alerts function
  • Brand new LinkedIn integration – be more productive with intuitive contact synchronisation in your Calendar
  • Camera improvements – with faster, more accurate Superior Auto Mode focus for great images, regardless of conditions
  • Enhanced enterprise support – with our latest Xperia in Business features for work
  • SmartWear integration – selfie snapping made that bit easier, with SmartWatch 3 as a remote shutter button
Sony also announced that the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra will receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update in the coming weeks, followed by Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3, the original Xperia Z series, Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua soon after.

Sony continues Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout for Xperia devices, coming soon to Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra


The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Sony Xperia devices started rolling out earlier this month starting from Nordics and Baltics region.

Today, Sony has expanded the rollout of Android Lollipop update to Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 tablet "to further markets worldwide". Additionally, Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet will receive the Android Lollipop update starting next week. 

Sony did not provide any change log for Xperia Z2 smartphone and Xperia Z2 tablet.

The new features that the Lollipop update will bring to Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact are- 
  • Fresh, streamlined looks – based on Google’s material design, but retaining our minimalistic approach to interface and application design.
  • New look notifications and lock screen – with fully customizable settings, so you only get the information you really need.
  • Multi user profiles and guest mode – making it easy for family and friends to use your device, or the creation of dual environments for work and play.
  • Android for Work – not only are business-ready Xperia smartphones and tablets unique devices for work – with waterproof form factors, great battery life and productivity features – they will now also be part of the Android for Work ecosystem.
  • Better storage control and customisation – with the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card – giving you more control over your content, particularly useful for devices with slightly less space.
Sony also made a surprise announcement. It confirmed that Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 ultra will also receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop in the coming weeks. Unfortunately the company did not provide any changelog and an exact time frame for the roll out.

Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is now rolling out


Just a day after rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update to Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact, Sony now is rolling out the update for Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z3 Tablet compact.

For Sony Xperia Z2 (D65XX) is receiving Android 5.0.2 firmware update with build 23.1.A.0.690 across Nordics and Baltic regions.

The Sony Xperia Z2 tablet and Xperia Z3 Tabket compact is also getting the same update as Xperia Z2 for Nordic region only.

For Xperia Z2 tablet, the update is rolling out for the 16GB Wi-Fi  model (SGP511) and LTE model (SGP521). The 32 GB WiFi variant (SGP512) is also expected to receive the update soon.

For the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, the Lollipop update is live for both the Wi-Fi (SGP611, SGP612) and LTE (SGP621) variants.

If you have not received the update you can perform a manual check by going to Settings > About Phone > Software update. It is worth adding that your Xperia phone or tablet must run an official Android firmware in order to receive the update.

Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 will get Android Lollipop Early 2015

The latest OS update from Android - Lollipop 5.0 has started to get in some devices even if it is at a slow pace, but if you are a Sony Xperia Z2 or Z3 owner, rest assured as your device will get the update soon.

Sony announced that the Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 will start receiving Android Lollipop update in early 2015. We are just two weeks away from 2015, so the update may arrive anytime soon. The announcement was made in Sony Xperia's twitter account :
"@SamTomelleri We'll start the upgrade at beginning of 2015 for the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series," 
In early November Sony began testing, Android Lollipop on their devices. After that Sony released the Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP device configuration source pre-built software binaries and build instructions binaries to Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact.

Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 owners, there you have it, your Lollipop update is due early next year, till then Have a break have a KitKat.
