LG makes laptop debut in the U.S with 'Gram' series
In the U.S, LG is known for its smartphones, TVs and other modern home appliances and is not pegged as a PC and laptop brand. Now, the South Korean tech giant is foraying in to the U.S market with the LG Gram, which is said to be thinner and lighter than the Apple MacBook Air.
The LG Gram comes in two sizes, 13.3-inch and 14-inch with 1920 x 1080 IPS display. The 13-inch model comes with Intel Core i5-5200U processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD and the 14-inch model is equipped with an Core i5-5200U or Intel Core i7-5500U with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. It runs Windows 10, including Cortana and the new Microsoft Edge browser.
There is a HDMI port, two USB 3.0 port and a SDXC card reader. There is also a Micro-USB port which can be used with the 10/100 Megabit Ethernet adapter. Wireless connectivity is provided by WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0 LED. Also on board is a 1.3-megapixel front camera and DTS sound speakers with Wolfsson DAC. The 35Wh battery keeps them running for 7.5 hours on a single charge on mixed usage.
The LG Gram chassis sports a rugged design with a mix of carbon-lithium and carbon magnesium. They have a thickness of 12.8mm, weighs 980g and comes in Snow White and Champagne Gold colors.
The LG Gram 13-inch model is priced at $899, the 14-inch model with Core i5 / Core i7 processor costs $999.99 and $1,399 respectively. They are now available for purchase in the U.S both online and in-store at Microsoft outles and Amazon.
