Amazon Fire HD 8, Fire HD 10 tablets announced

Besides launching the $50, 7-inch Amazon Fire tablet, Amazon announced two new Fire HD tablets, the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10.

Amazon Fire HD 8 features 8-inch HD (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display and is powered by quad-core MediaTek MT8135 (2 x 1.5GHz + 2 x 1.2GHz) processor further aided by PowerVR G6200 GPU and 1GB RAM. It comes with either 8GB (4.5GB available) or 16GB (11.6GB available) storage options, further expandable via microSD card up to 128GB. It runs the new Fire OS 5 'Bellini' based on Android Lollipop.

For imaging there is 5-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording support and 720p HD front facing camera. The 8-inch slate supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0 connectivity. Other features include 3.5mm stereo jack, integrated stereo speaker with Dolby Audio, Accelerometer and Gyrosocpe. It offers battery life of up to 8 hours on mixed usage, measures 214 x 128 x 7.7mm, weighs 311g and comes in Black, Magenta, Blue and Tangerine colors.

Amazon Fire HD 10 features 10-inch HD (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display. It comes with either 16GB (11.6 available) or 32GB (26GB available) inbuilt storage, measures 262 x 159 x 7.7 mm and weighs 432g. Rest of the specs are same as the 10-inch model. It comes in Black and White color.

The Amazon Fire HD 8 8GB model is priced at $149.99 and the 16GB model costs $169.99. The Fire HD 10 is priced at $299.99 for the 16GB models and $259.99 for the 32GB model. Amazon is taking pre-orders for the new tablets, with orders expected to ship starting from September 30.
