Motorola Moto 360 2nd Gen and Moto 360 Sports Edition gets official


Motorola has unveiled the successor to the Moto 360 Android Wear smartwatch at the sidelines of IFA 2015 in Berlin. The new Moto 360 sports a premium look and comes in two sizes for men and a special variant for women. In addition, there is Moto 360 Sport Edition aimed at athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

For men, it comes in two case sizes, a 46mm design and 42mm design. For women, it comes in only 42mm size. The 42mm case for men comes in silver case color and chamfer colored bezel. The 46mm comes in black and gold colored cased and micro knurl bezel treatment. The women's Moto 360 comes in Silver, gold and rose colors with bezel shining in peak and micro etch flavors. Also available are the metal and leather 'quick release' bands for both sizes.
Motorola claims that the new Moto 360 has the largest screen-to-case ration of any smartwatch available today. It is built out of aircraft-grade 316L stainless steel, with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The smartwatches are also IP67 certified making them dust and water resistant. In water in can withstand immersion up to 1 metre for 30 minutes.

The new Moto 360 comes in two screen sizes- 1.37-inch (42mm) (360 x 235 pixels) and 1.56-inch (46mm) (360 x 330 pixels) and is powered by 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor paired with Adreno 306 GPU and 512MB RAM. On-board storage is 4GB. It runs Google's Android Wear.


The 42mm variant of Moto 360 packs 300mAh battery which can last up to 1.5 days of mixed usage with Ambient off. The 46mm model comes with 400mAh battery which can last up to 2 days with ambient off, and a full days with ambient kept on. It supports Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11 b/g connectivity and comes loaded with an accelerometer, ambient light sensor and gyroscope. It also has an optical heart rate monitor. Other features include dual-microphones and Wireless charging.

The new Moto 360 comes with several new interesting features, one of them, Live Dial, which lets you get information at a glance and also let you use shortcuts to quickly access the most frequently used apps. "Set up the smaller dials on your watch to display the battery level, current weather, or your latest fitness stats," says Motorola.


Coming to the Moto 360 Sport Edition, it comes with an AnyLight Hybrid display that offers better visibility under the sunlight. The smartwatch offers a waterproof design and comes with a heart rate sensor and GPS to track your speed, distance and pace. It has strong silicon bands with UV coating that can last longer when in contact with moisture, dust and water.

The new Moto 360 is up for pre-order in the U.S via Motorola.com, Google Play and Best Buy. Prices start a $299.99 (Rs. 19,800) and go all the way up to $429.99 (Rs. 28,000) depending on the variant. Pricing and availability details of Moto 360 Sport Edition will be announced soon.
