The 18.4-inch Samsung Galaxy View tablet goes official


Samsung has officially unveiled its 18.4-inch Galaxy View tablet. It is being touted as the "Largest Android mobile device on the market". Samsung says that the Galaxy View has been designed with a video-centric interface in mind and the screen is optimized for media consumption

The Samsung Galaxy View features a 18.4-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) TFT LCD display.  To support it on a tablet, it has a built-in 2-way kickstand, which also doubles up as a handle as well to make it easy for users to carry it around. Inside there is an 1.6GHz octa-core Exynos 7580 processor with Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB RAM. It comes in two storage variants-32GB and 64GB, further expandable via microSD card up to 128GB. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. There is a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera, which can record 1080p videos. 

On the connectivity front, the tablet supports 4G LTE (Cat.6) (via Nano-SIM card), 3G HSPA+, WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, A-GPS and GLONASS. IT is fueled by 5700mAh battery which offers up to 8 hours of continuous video playback on a single charge. It also has dual 4-watt speakers. The tablet measures 451.8 x 275.9 x 11.9mm, weighs 2.65kg and comes in Black color only

The tablet has a custom home screen featuring entertainment apps like Netflix, Hulu and YouTube. Swiping on the next screen show the usual Android home screen with folders and apps. The top left section of the custom home screen shows up apps from cable providers including Comcast, DirectTV and Time Warner Cable.

The Pricing and availability of the Galaxy View is not yet revealed officially by Samsung, but there was an online listing seen from a US Store which shows the pricing to be $599.
