Pepsi Phone P1 goes official in China


The world famous soft-drink brand PepsiCo has announced its first smartphone- Pepsi Phone P1 in China. PepsiCo has  licensed its branding to China-based Shenzhen Technology Co., which will be manufacturing smartphone with Pepsi’s brand on it. It comes in two variant - The standard version called P1 and the China Unicom version with FDD-LTE support called P1s.

The Pepsi Phone P1s sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) 2.5D Curved Screen display and is powered  by 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor with Mali 450 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, further expandable via microD card. It runs dido OS 6.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and has Hybrid Dual SIM slot, which means users can either use two SIM cards or a Single SIM card alongside a microSD card.

For imaging, it is equipped with 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 5-megapixel front facing shooter. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.1 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. It is fueled by 3000mAh battery. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the back just below the camera and has an aluminum unibody design. It comes in Blue, Gold and Silver colors.

The Pepsi Phone P1s is available through crowdfunding campaign on jd.com in China. At the time of writing, the campaign on JD.com has has received around $90,000 in funding. The early bird offer on the crowd-sourcing website, which was priced at CNY 499 (Rs. 5,100 | $80), has already been sold out, but you can still pre-order the device for CNY 699 (Rs 7,250 | $110), which includes a protective cover, USB cable and a charger.  This is limited to 1000 orders and if this sells out there will be another 1000 units for grabs at CNY 999, after that it will be CNY 1299, till the funding ends.

PepsiCo aims to reach the goal of 3,000,000 Yuan (US$ 4,70,000 approx.) by 3 December.
