Xiaomi Redmi 3X with 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, 4100mAh battery announced


Xiaomi, a day after launching the Redmi 3s, has now launched yet another variant of Redmi 3 dubbed Redmi 3X in China. The Redmi 3X is pretty-much similar to the Redmi 3s, but comes in a single 2GB RAM, 32GB storage variant, instead of two, and is headed exclusively to China-based carrier China Unicom.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3X features metal build, 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 430 SoC, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, Hybrid dual-SIM slot (second slot doubles as storage), 4G LTE, fingerprint scanner, MIUI 7 based on Android and a beefy 4100mAh battery.

Xiaomi Redmi 3s with Snapdragon 430 SoC announced


Xiaomi has announced a new variant of Redmi 3 dubbed Redmi 3s in China. The design is similar to Redmi 3 Pro, with the metal unibody design and fingerprint scanner on the back. The major difference between Redmi 3, Redmi 3 Pro and Redmi 3s is the processor.

While the Redmi 3 (no fingerprint scanner), Redmi 3 Pro were equipped with Snapdragon 616 SoC (w/ Adreno 405 GPU), the Redmi 3s has Snapdragon 430 SoC (w/ Adreno 505 GPU). The rest of the specs are similar.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3s features 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display and comes in two variants — 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage — with microSD card support, and runs MIUI 7 based on Android Marshmallow. 

For photography there is 13-megapixel rear camera w/ PDAF, LED Flash, f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording. On the front there's 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video recording.

The phone has Hybrid dual SIM slot, which means the second SIM slot can be either used as nano-SIM slot or microSD card slot. Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. It is fueled by 4100mAh battery. 

The Xiaomi Redmi 3s base model (2GB RAM/16GB storage) is priced at CNY 699 (106 | Rs. 7,000), while the 3GB RAM/32GB storage model costs CNY 899 ($135 | Rs. 9,000). The phone will go on sale in China starting from June 16 through mi.com.

Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro with 5-inch display, 2GB RAM announced


Samsung last year launched the Galaxy J3 (6) in China, followed by launches in the U.S and India (w/ S Bike mode) and few other countries as well. Now Samsung has added a new member to the mid-range Galaxy J series and successor of J3 (6) dubbed Galaxy J3 Pro with increased RAM and storage. The phone is listed on Samsung China website, and is headed to China Telecom.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro sports a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) Super AMOLED display and is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor with 2GB RAM. On-board storage is 16GB, which can be further increased via microSD card (up to 128GB).

For photography, there's 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, 1080p video recording and 5-megapixel front camera for snapping selfies and video calling. The dual-SIM phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and GPS+GLONASS connectivity. It is backed by 2650mAh battery. 

For comparison, the Galaxy J3 (6) featured a different processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, and a slightly smaller 2600mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro is priced at CNY 990 ($150 | Rs. 10,000) and will be sold through China Telecom.

Meizu m3 with 5-inch display, octa-core CPU goes official


Following the launch of the m3 Note and Pro 6, Meizu has announced a new smartphone, that will succeed the m2, dubbed Meizu m3 in China. The Meizu m3 keeps the same poly-carbonate body as the m2, while offering a few minor hardware upgrade in the processor, configuration and battery department. It also sports the mBack button, which offers both mechanical and capacitive touch feedback.

The Meizu m3 features 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) 2.5D curved class display and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT67540 processor backed by Mali T860 GPU. The phone comes in two variants, 2GB RAM + 16GB storage (and) 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. It house hybrid dual-SIM that lets you use the second slot as microSD card slot (up to 128GB). It runs the custom Flyme OS 5.1 which is based on Android Lollipop.

The camera department gets 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, f/2.2 aperture and 5P lens. For clicking selfies and video calling you get a 5-megapixel shooter. Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. It is backed by 2870mAh battery. Unfortunately, there is no fingerprint scanner on-board.

The Meizu m3 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model is priced at CNY 599 ($92 | Rs. 6,000), and the 3GB RAM  + 32GB storage costs CNY 799 ($122 | Rs. 8,200). It comes in Gold, White, Grey, Blue and Pink colors, and is now up for order from Meizu's official store. Shipping starts from April 29.

Meizu Pro 6 with deca-core Helio X25 SoC, 4GB RAM announced


Meizu has officially announced it Pro series flagship, the Pro 6 in China. The Pro 6 sports a full metal boady and has mTouch 2.1 home button, that doubles as fingerprint sensor, and can unlcok the phone in just 0.2 seconds. It also comes with NXP's SmartPA chip and Cirrus Logic CS43L36 DAC for enhanced sound experience.

The Meizu Pro 6 features a 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 Super AMOLD display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection and 3D Press, Meizu's version of Apple's 3D Touch, that perceives different levels of pressure on the screen. It is powered by MediaTek's deca-core Helio X25 64-bit processor aided by Mali T880 GPUI and 4GB RAM. On-board storage is 32GB/64GB (two inbuilt storage variants), which can be expanded via microSD card.

For photography, the Pro 6 gets 21.6-megapixel rear camera with Ring dual-tone LED flash (10x), Laser Auto Focus, PDAF, 6P lenses, f/2.2 aperture and 4K video recording. On the front there is 5-megapixel camera for clicking selfies and video calling.

The dual-SIM phone runs Flyme OS 5.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB 3.1 Type-C connectivity. It is fueled by 2560mAh battery that supports mCharge 3.0 fast charging technology.

The Meizu Pro 6 32GB model is priced at CNY 2499 ($385 | Rs. 25,700), and the 64GB model costs CNY 2799 ($430 | Rs. 28,800). It is now available for order in China, and will go on sale starting from April 23.

Ivvi i3 with Snapdragon 430 SoC, 4GB RAM announced


China based Coolpad's sub-brand Ivvi has launched the world's first smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430, the Ivvi i3. The phone sports a metal body with an arc design for a comfortable grip.

The Ivvi i3 feature a 5.2-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a layer of 2.5D glass on top and is powered by 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 430 (MSM8937) paired with Adreno 505 GPU and 4GB RAM. It comes in three storage models - 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, with storage expansion support via microSD card (up to 128GB). It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

For photography, the Ivvi i3 gets a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and PDAF, and for clicking selfies and video calling, you get a 8-megapixel front snapper. It supports 4G LTE connectivity and is fueled by 2450mAh battery that supports fast charging. 

The phone comes with dual Hybrid SIM slot, which means the second SIM tray, accepts either SIM card or microSD card. Also on-board is fingerprint sensor (FPC1035) that is located at the back, that can unclock the device in just 0.1 seconds. The phone is 6.5mm thin and weighs just 145g.

The Ivvi i3 32GB model is priced at CNY 2299 ($355 | Rs. 23,500), 64GB model is priced at CNY 2499 ($385 | Rs. 26,000), and the 128GB model costs CNY 2799 ($430 | Rs. 28,700). The phone is now up for pre-order, and will go on sale starting April 19 in China.

Vernee Apollo Lite, a $200 smartphone with Helio X20 SoC, 4GB RAM


China based Vernee, made its debut in the smartphone market last month with the launch of Apollo, a $400 phone with 6GB RAM, Quad HD display, Helio X20 SoC and metal body. Now the company has launched a tonned down and more affordable Apollo version, dubbed Apollo Lite.

The phone sports a full metal unibody design, gets a fingerprint sensor at the back and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, but gets a bump down in the screen resolution, RAM, storage, camera and battery department.

The Vernee Apollo Lite sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display, and is powered by deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 (MT6797) processor with Mali T880 GPU and 4GB RAM. On-board atorage is 32GB, further expandable via microSD card.

For photography, the Apollo Lite, sports 16-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera. It houses USB Type-C port and Dual-SIM slots. The batter capacity is not known.

With all these specs, the Vernee Apollo Lite is priced at $200, and is claimed to be the most cheapest smartphone with Helio X20 SoC + 4GB RAM in the world. It is expected to be available in May. Vernee also has a mid-ranger up its sleeve dubbed Thor, which is now available for pre-order.

Meizu m3 note with Helio P10 SoC, 4100mAh battery gets official


Meizu has launched the successor of its budget m2 note smartphone dubbed m3 note in China. The m3 note sports  6000 series aluminum unibody and gets an upgrade in the processing and battery department than its predecessor.

The Meizu m3 note sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) LTPS 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by 1.8GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor paired with Mali T860 GPU. The phone comes in two variants - 2GB RAM w/ 16GB storage or 3GB RAM w/ 32GB storage (eMMC 5.1). The storage is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB).

For photography, it gets a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, f/2.2 aperture and 5P lens. For clicking selfies and video calling you get 5-megapixel front camera.

The m3 note runs Flyme OS 5.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with Hybrid Dual SIM slot  that lets you use the second SIM as the microSD slot when required. It has a mTouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button that can unclock the phone in just 0.2 seconds.

Connectivity features include 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity. It is fueled by 4100mAh battery.

The Meizu m3 note 2GB RAM w/ 16GB storage model is proced at CNY 799 ($123 | Rs. 8,000), and the 3GB RAM w/ 32GB storage model costs CNY 999 ($154 | Rs. 10,000). The m3 Note comes in Grey, Silver and Golden colors and will be available in China from April 11. As for the Indian market, the launch is expected next month.

Meizu MX5e with 16MP rear camera announced in China


Meizu has launched a toned down and slightly cheaper version of the Meizu MX5, the MX5e in China. The phone sports the same metal body with magnesium alloy frame as its predecessor and the mBack home button that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner. However, the difference is in the camera department.

The Meizu MX5e sports a 5.5-inch Full (1920 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and is powered by octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6759T) 64-bit processor coupled with PowerVR G6200 GPU and 3GB RAM. It comes in two storage variants - 16GB or 32GB, and does not support storage expansion.

For imaging, it gets a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Laser Auto focus, 6P lenses and 4K video recording. The Meizu MX5 had a 20.7-megapixel Sony IMX220 rear camera. For snapping selfies and video calling there is 5-megapixel front camera on-board.

Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE (TD-LTE / LTE-FDD), 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. It runs Flyme OS 4.5 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, has dual SIM slots and is backed by 3500mAh battery with mCharge fast charging technology.

The Meizu MX5e is priced at CNY 1499 (Rs. 15,000 | $231) for the 16GB model, while the 32GB model costs CNY 1699 (Rs. 17,300 | $262). It comes in Gold, White or Silver color options and is currently available from Meizu online store in China.

vivo Y31A with 4.7-inch display, Snapdragon 410 SoC announced


vivo has announced a lite variant of the Y31 smartphone dubbed Y31A, by listing it on the company website. The brand recently launched the world's first smartphone with 6GB RAM, the Xplay5.

The vivo Y31A sports a 4.7-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) IPS display and is powered by quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor w/ Adreno 306 GPU and comes with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, further can be increased up to 128GB via microSD card.

For imaging, the Y31A sports 8-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture, and 2-megapixel front facing camera. The dual-SIM Y31A runs FunTouch OS 4.5, based on Android 5.0 Lollopop and supports 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity. It is fueled by 2100mAh battery.

For comparision, the vivo Y31 had 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek MT6580 w/ Mali 400 GPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB expandable storage, 8MP/2MP rear & front camera and 2100mAh battery.

The vivo Y31A is priced at CNY 999 (Rs. 10,000) and is available to buy via China Telecom carrier. There are no details on global roll out.

Qihoo 360 F4 with metal body, 13MP rear camera gets official in China


China based Qihoo 360 (formerly known as QiKU, has launched the 360 F4, their latest budget smartphone in China. The brand is also the maker of the popular 360 Security app for Android devices.

The Qihoo 360 F4 sports a metal body with rounded borders to give the premium look. It has a fingerprint sensor on that back than can unlock the phone in 0.4 seconds. The fingerprint reader can also be used to call a speed dial number or as a camera shutter button. It also comes with Hybrid dual SIM slot, meaning the second slot can be used for microSD.

The Qihoo 360/QiKu F4 sports a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display and is powered by 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor w/ Mali-T720 GPU. It comes in two RAM/ROM variants - 2GB RAM w/ 16GB storage or 3GB RAM with 32GB storage. It runs 360 OS, that is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop

The F4 gets a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF) and 1080p video recording. Front facing snapper is 5-megapixel. Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. A 2500mAh battery keeps it running.

The Qihoo 360/QiKU F4 is priced at CNY 599 ($90 | Rs. 6,000) for the 2GB RAM w/ 16GB storage variant, and CNY 799 ($125 | Rs. 8,000) for the 3GB RAM w/ 62GB storage variant. It comes in White, Black, Pink, Gold and Blue colors. The F4 will be sold via flash sale model that will be held on March 25, and the registration for the sale is now open.

Vernee Apollo with Helio X20, 6GB RAM announced


Vernee is a new Chinese smartphone brand founded last month, and the brand is making no compromise when it comes to offering serious firepower in its first handset.

Dubbed Apollo, the handset packs a mammoth 6GB RAM, just like vivo's Xplay and is powered by MediaTek's deca-core Helio X20 (MT6797) SoC with Mali T-880 GPU, which was utilised by ZOPO's Speed 8 smartphone.

It flaunts a 5.5-inch QHD Force Touch display and houses 128GB internal storage, 21-megapixel rear camera w/ Sony IMX230 sensor, LED flash and 8-megapixel front facing camera. The Apollo sports a full metal unibody design, runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and, comes with fingerprint sensor and USB Type-C port. There is no mention of battery capacity. 

Overall Vernee's Apollo packs enough firepower to take on the likes of Xiaomi's Mi 5, LeEco's Le Max, and Huawei and Meizu's upcoming flagship.


Vernee also introduced a budget smartphone called Thor (right in the above image) equipped with MediaTek MT6753 SoC. Though, the brand did not reveal the complete specs, but it does sport a fingerprint sensor.

The Vernee Apollo come in silver color and will release sometime in April 2016. Pricing will be announced next month.

Oppo R9, R9 Plus with 4GB RAM, 16MP camera gets official


Oppo has officially announced its flagship R9 and R9 Plus in China. The R9 and R9 Plus sports a 6063 aluminum alloy body and supports VOOC charging, that offers 2 hours of talktime with just minutes of talk time.

The home button doubles up as a fingerprint scanner, that is capable of unlocking the handset in mere 0.2 seconds and even works with wet fingers. They house hybrid dual-SIM trays (SIM + SIM or SIM + microSD card) and run Android 5.1 Lollipop with Color OS 3.0 on top. 

The Oppo R9 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with Mali T8690 GPU 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, further expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.

For photography the R9 offers a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/2.2 aperture, 5P lens and 4K video recording capabilities. For snapping selfies and video calling you get a 13-megapixel front camera. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. It is fueled by 2850mAh battery.


The Oppo R9 Plus gets a bigger 6-inch display Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display and is equipped with Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor clubbed with Adreno 510 GPU, 4GB RAM, and comes with either 64GB/128GB internal storage w/ microSD card support. 

The R9 Plus gets 16-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensors, PDAF, f/2,0 aperture, 5P lens and LED flash. Front facing camera is 16-megapixel as well. It is fueled by 4120mAh battery and supports 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual-band), Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity features.

The Oppo R9 is now available for order in China for CNY 2799 ($430 | Rs. 29,000) and will go on sale starting March 24. The R9 Plus is priced at CNY 3299 ($410 | Rs. 34,000) and will go on sale in China from April 12. They come in Rose Gold and Golden colors.

UMi announces Windows 10 Mobile version of their MediaTek powered 'Touch' smartphone


Chinese smartphone maker UMi recently introduced 'Touch' smartphone running Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with high-end specs. Now the brand has introduced a Windows 10 Mobile variant of the UMi Touch.

UMi says that the Touch comes pre-loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but promises to release Windows 10 Mobile ROM for the handset in the near future. The brand also said that if it gets positive response for users for Windows 10 Mobile for the Touch, it will out a new variant with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Spec-wise, the UMi Touch comes with a 5.5-inch LTPS 1080p display with 2.5D curved glass and is equipped with 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MTK6753 processor  w/ Mali T720 GPU, 3GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt expandable storage, 13MP rear camera (Sony’s IMX328 sensor), 5MP front camera and fingerprint sensor. It supports 4G LTE connectivity and is fueled by 4000mAh battery. The handset will also support Microsoft's virtual digital assistant Cortana.

The UMi Touch is currently up for pre-orders in China for $150 (Rs. 10,000). Shipping begins on March 20, and from March 25, the price will go up to $179.99.

Last year, Xiaomi had released Windows 10 Mobile ROM for its flagship Mi 4. If a report is to be believed, Xiaomi will also be offering Windows 10 Mobile ROM for its latest flagship Mi 5. OnePlus 2 is also expected to get Windows 10 Mobile ROM as well.

vivo Xplay5 with Snapdragon 820 SoC, 6GB RAM is official


vivo has officially announced the Xplay5, the Chinese smartphone makers latest flagship, at an event in Beijing, China. It packs 6GB RAM, making it the world's first smartphone to come with that much amount of memory. The Xplay5 also has dual curved edges on either side of the display just like the Galaxy S7 edge.The handset is encased in a body that is made out of metal.

The vivo Xplay5 sports a 5.43-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED dual curved edge display with Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the displays against scratches.. It is powered by quad-core Snapdragon 820 64-bit processor, coupled with Adreno 530 GPU and 6GB RAM. On-board storage is 128GB. For photography, the Xplay5 is equipped with 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, Sony IMX298 sensor Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) for focus speed of just 0.1 seconds. Selfie lovers will get an 8-megapixel front camera to snap selfies.

The dual-SIM phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and supports 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity. It is backed by 3600mAh battery that supports fast charging technology. It has a fingerprint sensor, that is placed on the back, that can unlock the phone in just 0.4 seconds. It also includes Hi-Fi 3.0 including 2 x ES9028 and 3 x OPA1612 chips that offers better audio experience.

There is also a cheaper version of Xplay5 that comes with Snapdragon 652 octa-core SoC w/ Adreno 510 GPU and 3GB RAM.

The vivo Xplay5 Elite (Snapdragon 820 SoC, 6GB RAM) is priced at CNY 4288, while the Standard Edition (Snapdragon 652 SoC, 4GB RAM) costs CNY 3699. They come in Champagne Gold and Rose Gold colors, and will be available for order starting March 8. Shipping begins March 16 in China. It is not known whether the Xplay5 will be made available globally

Xiaomi Mi 5 with Snapdragon 820 SoC gets official


Xiaomi after nearly two years has finally officially announced its flagship, the Mi 5 in China. The Mi 5 is the successor to the Mi 4, and the expectations are quite high, given that the Chinese smartphone maker, now faces bigger challenges with new mobile device manufacturers with capable smartphones across the budget market.

Xiaomi's flagship Mi 5 sports a 3D glass body, with strong glass on the rear, and flaunts a sleek profile with 7.25mm thickness, and weighs just 129g. The Xiaomi Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) curved glass display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass for protection, below which there is a home button that doubles as fingerprint scanner.

The Mi 5 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor with Adreno 530 GPU, 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB (UFS 2.0) on-board storage. It actually comes in three variants - Standard Edition w/ 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC / 3GB RAM / 32GB storage  (or) High Edition w/ 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC / 3GB RAM / 64GB storage (or) Exclusive Ceramic Edition w/ 2.15Ghz Snapdragon 820 SoC / 4GB RAM / 128GB storage. 


For photography, there is 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX298 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF resulting in a quick focus, DTI pixel isolation technology, Spectra image processor, 4-axis OIS and 4K video recording capabilities. For clicking selfies you get a 4-megapixel front snapper with large pixel size of 2 microns, f/2.0 apeture and 80-degree wide-angle lens.

The Dual-SIM Mi 5 runs MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and supports 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/m/ac dual-band (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. It is fueled by a 3000mAh battery that supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. Xiaomi claims that users can get a talk-time of  2.5 hours with just 5 minutes of charge. Also on-board is an IR Blaster.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Standard Edition (1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage) is priced at CNY 1999 ($305 | Rs. 21,000), High Edition (2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB RAM, 64GB storage) costs CNY 2299 ($350 | Rs. 25,000), and the Exlcusive Ceramic Edition (2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage) will cost CNY 2699 ($415 | Rs. 28,500). It will go on sale in China from March 1. The Mi 5 comes in Black, White, Gold and Rose colors.

Xiaomi Mi 4s with Snapdragon 808, fingerprint scanner announced


Xiaomi, ahead of unveiling of its flagship Mi 5, has introduced a new mid-range smartphone, the Mi 4s in China. The Mi 4s sports a metal frame and a glass panel on the front and back giving it a premium look.

The Xiaomi Mi 4s features 5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display and is powered by hexa-core Snapdragon 808 64-bit processor paired with Adreno 418 GPU and 3GB RAM. On-board storage is 64GB, further expandable via microSD card. It runs MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Mi 4s sports 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, 5P lenses, f/2.0 aperture, 1080p video recording capabilities and 120fps slow motion video capturing. On the front there is 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 85-degree wide angle lens.

Connectivity features include 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band (w/ MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB Type-C. It is fueled by 3260mAh battery that supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging technology. The Mi 4s also includes a fingerprint sensor at the back panel, Infrared sensor and Hybrid Dual SIM slot (nano-SIM + micro SIM (or) nano-SIM  + microSD card). 

The Xiaomi Mi 4s is priced at CNY 1699 ($260 | Rs. 18,000) and will go on sale in India starting March 1. It will be available in White, Black, Gold, Purple and a limited edition Pink colors

Oppo A30 with OnePlus X like design announced


Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has announced the A30 smartphone in China, which is identical to the OnePlus X specifically the Champagne Edition, both in terms of looks and specifications. This means the Oppo A30 is made out of metal frame with is placed on between two piece of glass.

The Oppo A30 sports a 5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display and is powered by 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974) processor with Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, further expandable via microSD card. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop.

For photography, there is 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 8-megapixel front facing camera. For connectivity there is support for 4G LTE (including LTE bands in India), 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity. It is fueled by 2525mAh battery.

Oppo has not yet announced the pricing and availability details of the A30. But, rumors coming out of China suggests that the Oppo A30 will cost CNY 1999 ($306 | Rs. 21,000).

Lenovo K5 Note with Helio P10 SoC gets official


The Lenovo K5 Note which was certified by TENAA earlier this has now been officially announced in China. The phone sports a premium all-metal body and has a fingerprint sensor on the back that can detect fingerprint in just 0.3 seconds. The sensor can also be used to make payments and capture images.

The Lenovo K5 Note sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display and is powered by 1.8GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor further aided by Mali T860 GPU and 2GB RAM. On-board storage is 16GB, further expandable via microSD card up to 128GB. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and will be getting Android Marshmallow in the coming weeks.

For photography, it is equipped with 13-megapixel rear camera with dual tone LED flash, PDAF and f/2.2 aperture. For clicking selfies you get a 8-megapixel front snapper. The dual SIM phone supports 4G LTE, VoLTE3G HSPA+, dual band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. It is fueled by 3500mAh battery which promises to deliver 34.2 hours of talk time and 543.3 hours of standby time. It comes with 1.5W speaker on the back with Dolby Atmos Surround Sound.

Priced at CNY 1099 ($165 | Rs. 11,000), the Lenovo K5 Note is now available for pre-order in China and ships from January 31. It comes in Silver and Golden colors.

Pipo X9S tablet mini PC comes with Cherry Trail, 4GB RAM, Windows 10


China based device maker Pipo has launched a refreshed model of its tablet mini PC X9, dubbed X9S. The refreshed model gets a powerful processor and twice as much as RAM as the X9.

Just like the X9, the X9S also has a form factor that can be best described as a tablet that is permanently connected to a docking station.By connecting a mouse, keyboard and an external display, users can use it as a full-fledged PC.

The Pipo X9S sports a 8.9-inch touchscreen display and is equipped with Intel Cherry Trail Z8300 quad-core processor clocked at 1.84GHz with Intel HD Graphics Gen8, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It runs Windows 10. For comparison, the X9 was equipped with a Bay Trail processor and 2GB RAM.

There is a microSD card reader (up to 64GB accepted), 4 x USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet port, HDMI port and a headphone jack. For wireless connectivity there is WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0.
