Xiaomi Mi 5 launched in India for Rs. 24,999


As promised Xiaomi has launched its flagship, the Mi 5 in India, making it the first market outside China to receive the Mi 5. The Indian market will get the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant of Mi 5, and will cost Rs. 24,999. It will be available in from mi.com through flash sale starting from April 6, and will be available from the Xiaomi's other online sales partners in a few weeks.. Xiaomi also announced Mi Protect for the phone that will cost Rs. 599.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 was launched in China and on the sideline of MWC 2016 in Barcelona last month. The Mi 5 sports an ergonomically designed 3D glass body with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass on the front and rear. It also has a home button that doubles up as fingerprint scanner and also comes with IR blaster.

Spec-wise, the Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch Full HD curved glass display and is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor aided by Adreno 530 GPU. As mentioned before it comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB UFS 2.0 storage. It runs MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and houses dual-SIM slot.

For photography, it gets a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto-Focus), 4-axis optical image stabilisation, DTI pixel isolation technology, Spectra image sensor and 4K recording. On the front 4-megapixel 80-degree wide angle camera w/  2um pixel size for snapping selfies and video calling.

Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE w/ VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C port. The Mi 5 is fueled by a 3000mAh battery, which supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology, that offers 2.5 hours of talk-time with just five minutes of charge.

Xiaomi Mi 5 "coming to India in a month" says Hugo Barra


Xiaomi today finally launched the Redmi Note 3 in India at a starting price of Rs. 9,999, along with the Mi Bluetooth Speaker (Rs. 1,999). However, at the launch event, Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi Global made a surprise announcement.

Barra said that the recently launched Xiaomi flagship, the Mi 5 will be "coming to India in a month". He added saying that the team in India is trying to get the Mi 5 here "in a month" without revealing an exact date.

If Xiaomi launches the Mi 5 in India by April, the country will become one of the first markets to sell the flagship outside China. Barra also said that Xiaomi, has received a massive 1.6 crore registrations for Mi 5, which went on sale in China on Monday, February 29.

Barra had previously confirmed that the Mi 5 will be launched in core markets outside China including India, Malaysia, Brazil, Indonesia and Philippines, and even plans to expand to more markets.

As an added bonus, Xiaomi also plans to bring the 20000mAh Mi power bank to the country soon.

Coming back to the Mi 5, the device comes with 5.15-inch 1080p curved class display encased into a 3D glass body, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, 16MP rear & 4MP front facing camera, 4G LTE, NFC, USB Type-C port, 3000mAh battery, and runs MIUI 7 based on Android Marshamllow. There's also a Pro variant that comes with 4GB RAM, 128GB storage. The base model is priced at CNY 1999 (Rs. 21,000) while the Pro model costs CNY 2699 (Rs. 28,000).

Xiaomi Mi 5 with Snapdragon 820 SoC gets official


Xiaomi after nearly two years has finally officially announced its flagship, the Mi 5 in China. The Mi 5 is the successor to the Mi 4, and the expectations are quite high, given that the Chinese smartphone maker, now faces bigger challenges with new mobile device manufacturers with capable smartphones across the budget market.

Xiaomi's flagship Mi 5 sports a 3D glass body, with strong glass on the rear, and flaunts a sleek profile with 7.25mm thickness, and weighs just 129g. The Xiaomi Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) curved glass display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass for protection, below which there is a home button that doubles as fingerprint scanner.

The Mi 5 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor with Adreno 530 GPU, 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB (UFS 2.0) on-board storage. It actually comes in three variants - Standard Edition w/ 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC / 3GB RAM / 32GB storage  (or) High Edition w/ 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC / 3GB RAM / 64GB storage (or) Exclusive Ceramic Edition w/ 2.15Ghz Snapdragon 820 SoC / 4GB RAM / 128GB storage. 


For photography, there is 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX298 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF resulting in a quick focus, DTI pixel isolation technology, Spectra image processor, 4-axis OIS and 4K video recording capabilities. For clicking selfies you get a 4-megapixel front snapper with large pixel size of 2 microns, f/2.0 apeture and 80-degree wide-angle lens.

The Dual-SIM Mi 5 runs MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and supports 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/m/ac dual-band (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. It is fueled by a 3000mAh battery that supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. Xiaomi claims that users can get a talk-time of  2.5 hours with just 5 minutes of charge. Also on-board is an IR Blaster.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Standard Edition (1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage) is priced at CNY 1999 ($305 | Rs. 21,000), High Edition (2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB RAM, 64GB storage) costs CNY 2299 ($350 | Rs. 25,000), and the Exlcusive Ceramic Edition (2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage) will cost CNY 2699 ($415 | Rs. 28,500). It will go on sale in China from March 1. The Mi 5 comes in Black, White, Gold and Rose colors.
