HTC Vive virtual reality headset gets April 2016 release date


HTC announced its first virtual reality headset, HTC Vive at MWC 2015. The headset was supposed to be launched on December 8, but was later delayed and was expected sometime in 2016. 

Now HTC has provided provided an update about the launch of Vive. HTC in a blog post stated that the Vive will be commercially made available from April 2016. 

HTC will first make 7,000 units available to developers that will be followed by the commercial availability in April 2016. HTC also stated that it has been distributing Vive Developers Kit to developers and content creator, and is working with other companies to create content that spans gaming, entertainment, medical, education and retail. HTC did not mention the reason behind the delay of the Vive VR headset.

HTC also said that it will host a developer conference in Beijing on December 18 and launch the second generation of the HTC Vive Developer Kit at CES.

HTC's Vive is a virtual reality headset made in partnership with Valve's Steam VR program. As of now there is no information on the pricing of the Vive, but based on rumors, it is expected to carry the price tag of around $500.
