Sony might launch its own VR headset at MWC 2016

Sony has scheduled its MWC 2016 press conference on February 22. Unfortunately it is not known what the company plans to launch. The leaks have also been bland. However, a new report suggests that Sony might launch a VR headset.

The company has updated its Privilege Plus entertainment app to include VR Theatre, indicating that Sony might launch its own VR headset at MWC 2016. It is already working on PlayStation VR, which is expected to release later this year. Sony already has a patent for mobile VR headset.

The new Privilege Plus now lets you experience the Joseph Gordon-Levitt starrer 'The Walk' in VR. This lets you view the movie through a headset or have a 360 degree experience.

According to Sony the VR experience is not compatible with Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3, Xperia E1, Xperia C3, Xperia L, Xperia M, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z, Xperia E4G, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra, and Xperia M5. So it could support only high-end Xperia Z series smartphone.

At MWC 2015, Sony launched the Xperia M5 Aqua smartphone and Xperia Z4 tablet. It is not known what Sony will launch this year. However, a Xperia C series smartphone had surface earlier - the Xperia C6 rumored to come with 6-inch 1080p display with slim bezels. We can expect the Xperia C6 to make an appearance in the show.
