Sony's PlayStation VR will launch in October for $399
Sony has announced the release month, price and specification of its PlayStation VR (PS VR) headset at Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016.
The Sony PS VR (earlier called Project Morpheus) will be cost $399 in the U.S, 399 Euros in Europe, GBP 349 in UK and 44,980 Yen in Japan. It's worth noting that the price does not include PlayStation Move camera and controllers required for tracking, and will cost extra. The pre-order for the PS VR will begin internationally on March 16, and will be available in October 2016.
The Sony PS VR bundle includes the headset, PlayRoom VR game, Earplugs, A breakout box with additional processing unit, cables and documentation.
The PS-VR specs include 5.7-inch OLED display running at 120Hz refresh rate and having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 960 x 1080 per eye. The field of view comes in at right around 100 degrees with latency less than 18ms.
As for software titles, Sony expects 50 launch titles to be made available between October and the and of the year, and has 230 game developers on-board including 2K Games and Ubisoft. Some of the launch game titles include Eagle Flight, EVE: Valkyrie, Headmaster, Rez Infinite, Wayward Sky, RIGS: Mechanical Combat League and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood that will launch before the year ends.
Additionally EA, DICE and Lucasfilm are working on an all-new Star Wars Battlefront gaming experience for PS VR.
The PS VR is Sony's answer to HTC's Vive and Oculus Rift that are priced higher $800 and $600 respectively.
