Android VR reference spotted on Google Play Developer Console
A day after it was reported that Google will introduce its standalone Android VR headset at I/O conference next week, the reference of Android VR placeholder has been spotted on Google's Play Developer Console.
Android Police has outed a screenshot, that shows an additional tab of Android VR in the Developer Console, alongside Android Wear, Android TV and Android Auto. The Android VR icon is in the Pricing and Distribution section. Clicking on the Android VR icon doesn't do anything, unlike the other platforms. You can see these icons if you sign into the Google Play Developer Console.
Yesterday it was reported that Google's standalone VR headset will be called Android VR headset and will not require a smartphone or PC to run. The VR headset will not be as powerful as HTC Vive or Oculus Rift VR headset, but will be more powerful than Samsung's Gear VR. It will come with a screen, outward facing camera and a high powered processor provided by Movidius. The Android VR headset's camera will be able to track the motion of user's head to provide middle ground experience.
We will have to wait until May 18 for Google to shed more light on it standalone VR headset project.
