YouTube's Smart Offline feature lets you schedule video downloads overnight [India]


YouTube has announced a new Smart Offline feature for mobile devices in India, that lets you schedules offline video downloads. The new feature lets you take advantage of reduced data rates offered by telecom operators for night hours. Initially, the new feature will be rolling out to Airtel and Telenor subscribers, and will expand to other carriers in the coming weeks.

With the new feature, when you tap on the download button to view the video offline, you will get the option to select "Save overnight" function using the mobile operator's discounted night data plan. Enabling the aforementioned option, YouTube will automatically scheduled your video to be downloaded after peak hours at night.

The selected videos will be download overnight and will be available to watch on-the-go offline seamlessly without any buffering the next day. Note that the Smart Offline feature will not work on WiFi networks, and you will have to be connected over cellular networks (mobile data). To get the new feature you need to update the YouTube app to the latest version on your device.
