Huawei Maimang 5 with 5.5-inch display, 4GB RAM, 16MP OIS camera announced


Huawei has announced a new smartphone in China dubbed Maimang 5. It is the successor to the Maimang 4, which was launched under the Huawei G8 moniker in international markets. So we can can assume the Miaming 5 to break cover in other countries as Huawei G9.

The Huawei Maimang 5 features 5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU. It comes in two RAM/ROM variants – 3GB RAM w/ 32GB storage and 4GB RAM w/ 64GB storage. The storage is expandable via microSD card.

There's 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, OIS, f/2.0 aperture and 4k video recording. On the front there's 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.

It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 on top. Connectivity duties are handled by Hybrid Dual SIM slots, 4G LTE w/ VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB Type-C. It is fueled by 3340mAh battery and has fingerprint scanner at the back.

Design-wise, Maiming 5 boasts 7.3mm thin metal unibody design with chamfered edges giving it a premium look. It comes in Champagne Gold, Rose Gold and Moonlight Silver colors.

The Huawei Maimang 5 is priced at CNY 2399 ($359| Rs.24,000) for the 3GB RAM model, and CNY 2599 ($390 | Rs. 26,000) for the 4GB RAM model. It is now available for order in China and goes on sale from July 21.
