Android Marshmallow hits 18.7 percent adoption rate


Google has already released Android 7.0 Nougat for Nexus and Android One devices. However, Nougat it active in less than 0.1 percent of active Android devices according to Google's latest Android distribution data. The data was collected during a seven-day period ending September 5.

Android Marshmallow which was released in October 2015 is slowly rising, and is now running on 18.7 percent of active Android devices, an increase of 3.5 percent, when compared to 15.2 percent in August.

Lollipop is still the most widely-used Android OS and is running on 35 percent of active devices, 0.5 percent down from 35.5 percent since last month. Android 4.4 KitKat also went down from 29.9 percent in August to 27.7 percent, a decrease of 1.5 percent.

The out dated Android operating systems Jelly Bean (v4.1 – 4.3), Ice Cream Sandwhich and Gingerbread are running on 15.6 percent (vs. 16.7 percent in August), 1.4 percent and 1.5 percent respectively. Froyo is still doing fine and is hanging on at 0.1 percent.
