Huawei's HiKey 960 is Raspberry Pi like board computer for Android


Huawei has introduced a new Rasperry Pi-like single-board PC called HiKey 960, an ARM-based development board aimed at AOSP (Android Open Source Project) developers. It looks like the $35 Raspberry Pi 3, and has almost same dimensions (85mm x 55mm), but costs seven times more, given the hardware, the board packs.

 The HiKey 960 board computer is based on Huawei Kirin 960 octa-core ARM big.LITTLE proccessor with 4 x ARM Cortex-A73 and 4 x Cortex-A53 cores with Mali G671 MP8 GPU. This is the same chip used in Huawei flagship smartphones, Mate 9 and P10/P10 Plus, bringing HiKey 960 in par with most modern smartphones, when it comes to performance. The board has 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.

 It comes with microSD card slot, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, a USB Type-C port, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, and an HDMI port that supports resolution up to 1920 x 1080 pixels, though the GPU is capable of handling 4K out put.  It also includes a 60-pin connector and 40-pin connector for connecting additional hardware like camera.
The board PC's default OS is the official open-source version of Android.

The HiKey 960 is priced at $239 and will be available through local distribution in the US, EU and Japan in early May.
