Google Drive will soon let you backup all your computer files
Google Drive is a very useful tool to share files and documents across platforms. Now it appears that Google is turning Drive into a more powerful backup tool.
Google has announced that on June 28 it will launch a new tool called Backup and Sync, that will allow you to back up to backup the entire computer including all documents, files and photos to cloud, so the files can be accessed from anywhere. The Backup and Sync tool will replace both the standard Google Drive and Google Photos Backup apps on your PC and Mac.
Backup and Sync will allow you to back up files located anywhere on your PC, and not just those located on your Drive Folder. With the new tool, you will be able to backup files from your desktop, your documents or photo folders or any specific location.
Google on its blog noted “Backup and Sync is the latest version of Google Drive for Mac/PC, which is now integrated with the Google Photos desktop uploader.” It will also respect the current drive for Mac/PC settings in the Admin console, says the company. It also said the new tool is geared towards consumer users.
However, the search giant suggests G Suite users to continue using Google Drive app for now, since it will be rolling out enterprise focused Drive File Stream business solution later this year. Drive File Stream will allow users to access huge corporate data sets without taking up the equivalent space on their hard drives.
Google says the new Backup and Sync tool will be available for download once it rolls out on June 28.
