Google releases final Android O developer preview

The much-awaited official release of Android O must be getting closer, as Google is rolling out the fourth and final developer preview (DP) of the latest Android iteration for Nexus and Pixel devices.

Android O Developer Preview 4 has the final API's (level 26) that was already available in the DP3, along with final system behaviors, bug fixes and optimizations. Google has also released device system images of DP4, as well as the stable version of Android 26.0.0 Support Library.

Android O will have the version 8.0, and a final name is yet to be revealed. However, the Easter Egg appearing when you tap the Android version in system settings now shows an Octopus. Other candidates are Oatmeal Cookie and Oreo.

To recall, Android O brings features like notification channels and dots, PiP (picture in picture), shortcut pinning, background execution limited, adaptive icons, downloadable fonts, auto-sizing TextView, auto-fill and minimize APK size.

Android O Developer Preview 4 is available for Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Nexus Player. The DP4 images of Android O is available from Android Developer website or if you've opted in for the Android Beta program, you will get the latest beta build over-the-air. The final Android O release is expected to roll out in August.
