Google Assistant comes to Android TV, starting with NVIDIA SHIELD TV

Back in January Google announced that Google Assistant will make its way to Android TV. And now nine months later Google Assistant has finally arrived on Android TV starting with NVIDIA SHIELD TV. Google says in the coming months Sony Bravia TVs will gain support for Assistant.

The Android TV-Google Assistant integration will let you control TV features using voice commands like turning up the volume, pause and more. You can even ask Assistant to play your favorite movies, TV shows, YouTube videos or business news; get answers; check score of your favorite team; play music; dim the lights; Talk to Fitstar, for quick home workout; order products via Google Express; weather update; control smart home devices and more.

To use Google Assistant on a SHIELD TV, you'll have to upgrade the software to the latest version 6.0 (SHIELD Experience Upgrade 6.0). Once done, you can trigger Google Assistant in two ways: by pressing the microphone button on the remote (SHIELD controller), or with a voice command - Ok Google (from within shouting distance of the SHIELD controller).

Then you can give voice commands like “Play Game of Thrones”, “play some music”,  “Search YouTube for Jimmy Kimmel.", “Tell me about Jurassic Park?” and more to get things done hands-free.

Google says to celebrate the arrival of Google Assistant on Android TV, it is offering three months YouTube Red trial on SHIELD, so you can watch add-free videos and listen to music.
