Motorola outs list of handsets that will receive Android Oreo

After Nokia, Sony, HTC and OnePlus, Lenovo-owned Motorola has confirmed which of its devices will get Android 8.0 update.

The list includes that new Moto G5 line up, Moto X4 and the entire Moto Z family. Unfortunately, phones like Moto G4 series, Moto M, Moto E4/E4 Plus and Moto C/C Plus, which are less than two year old, have not made the cut.

List of Motorola handsets that will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update:
  • Moto Z / Moto Z Droid
  • Moto Z Force Droid
  • Moto Z Play / Moto Z Play Droid
  • Moto Z2 Play
  • Moto Z2 Force Edition
  • Moto X4
  • Moto G5
  • Moto G5 Plus
  • Moto G5S
  • Moto G5S Plus
As mentioned earlier, the Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus and Moto M will not be getting the Oreo update, and this is surprising as well as disappointing for owners, given that, most OEMs promises to push at least two major software update to their devices. The omission of entry-level phones is not surprising as last year too Moto did not update the Moto E3 to Android Nougat.

Motorola said that it will start pushing Android 8.0 Oreo to supported devices this fall.

Android 8.0 Oreo brings new features to the user interface as well as under the hood like picture-in-picture (PIP) mode for multi-tasking, Instant apps, limiting background processes to improve battery life, improved auto-fill, notifications dots, adaptive icons, Google Play Protect, new emoji, downloadable fonts, TextView auto-sizing, sorting notifications through categories, Notification snoozing and more.
