Nokia Ozo virtual-reality camera carries $60,000 price tag, will ship in early 2016


Nokia unveiled the spherical Ozo VR camera in July this year, but until now Nokia didn't give it a price tag. Today the Finnish company announced that the Ozo VR camera that captures 360-degree video and audio will cost $60,000 and will be launched in early 2016.

The Ozo VR camera features multiple camera across its spherical design that can simultaneously capture immersive views of the world. The device is designed for making 3D films and games that can be watched, explored or experienced via a virtual reality headset.

The Ozo is amde of milled aluminium and alloy and weighs 4.3kg with its lithium-ion battery and comes in Lava grey color. It offers a real-time VR preview, wireless operation and full 3D 360 audio and video broadcast capabilities.

OZO captures stereoscopic 3D video through eight synchronized global shutter sensors and spatial audio through eight integrated microphones. The eight shutters have an f/2.4 aperture.
The camera can operate wirelessly and can record videos with all the data stored as a single file, or capture it for live broadcast.

Nokia's OZO VR camera is built for professional filmmakers


Nokia has forayed into the virtual reality arena by outing a virtual reality (VR) camera dubbed OZO. It is designed and built for professional content creator and helps capture 360-degree video and audio.

The OZO is said to be the first in the portfolio of digital media solutions from Nokia Technologies, the company's advanced technology and licensing business. It will be manufactured in Finland.

OZO captures stereoscopic 3D video through eight synchronized global shutter sensors and spatial audio through eight integrated microphones. The OZO software has been built to enable real-time 3D viewing. The recorded content can be published to virtual reality hardware such as commercially available headsets.

Nokia alongside also announced that Palo Alto-based VR production company Jaunt has committed to support OZO by offering the camera for use in Jaunt Studios and by supporting content produced with OZO through its post-production services.

The OZO VR camera is expected to start shipping in Q4 2015. Details about pricing and full technical specifications will be announced soon.
