Xiaomi unveils portable Mi Bluetooth Speaker with microSD card support


Besides unveiling its own wireless carrier and Mi 4c smartphone, Xiaomi also introduced Mi Bluetooth speaker in China. The compact-sized speaker looks like a pencil box and has a full aluminum body. It weighs just 270g, which makes it easy to carry around. The aluminum alloy body prevents wear and dirt.

It offers a frequency response 85Hz – 20Hz, and a maximum power output of 3W. The speaker also boasts dual 36mm drivers with strong NdFeB magnets with with Ferrotec FRM4005 ferro fluid cooling technology. It has been further adjusted for tonal balance and delivers low distortions at high volumes.

Xiaomi's Mi Bluetooth Speaker features built-in microphone and allows you to answer calls with a press of a button without the need of a mobile device. When you receive a call on a connected smartphone, the music automatically pauses.

With the Bluetooth (4.0) connectivity, you can pair the speaker with compatible devices. There is also a microSD card slot to let you play music directly from a microSD card. It also has an aux-in port to connect the audio sources which don't have Bluetooth support. It is fueled by 1500mAh battery, which offers up to eight hours of audio playback.

Xiaomi's Mi Bluetooth speaker comes in Gold, Blue and Pink colors and is priced at 199 Yuan ($30 | Rs. 2,000).

MapmyIndia's SafeMate helps you track your loved ones

MapmyIndia, one of the premiere names in India for digital maps and GPS navigation devices has launched SafeMate, a personal safety device for women, children and families. The match-box sized device weighs just 50g and can be easily placed in a school bag, purse or pocket.

It uses a built-in GPS and internet connectivity to continuously and securely transmit the live locations of your loved ones to your mobile device or desktops. In case of emergency, the SafeMate user has to instantly press the SOS button, which will send emal and SMS alerts to designated people.

SafeMate can be tracked through a browser or via the SafeMate companion app available for Android and iOS devices. The tracker has a 1500mAh rechargable battery that can last up to three to four days on a single charge.

MaymyIndia SafeMate is priced at Rs. 6,990 and is available exclusively on Flipkart. The tracker is being bundled with Rs. 3,600 worth of SIM card connectivity charges and subscription fees for the first year, which can later be renewed for a monthly fee of Rs. 300.

YU Televentures has launched its JYUICE portable power banks in India which comes in 5000mAh and 10000mAh capacities. These have anti-corrosion Aluminum Alloy body and have round edges for a better grip. 

YU JYUICE has multi-colored LED indicator that adjusts color based on the amount of juice left. Amazon unveils new Fire TV with 4K support, Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote

Amazon, apart for launching four new tablets- the $50 Amazon Fire, Amazon Fire HD 8 & 10 and Amazon Fire Kids addition also introduced updated version of Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The company also introduced Amazon TV Gaming Edition.

The Amazon Fire TV has been granted support for 4K streaming and now lets users aaccess the 4K UHD streams of Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Video and Netflix. It has a 2GHz quad-core MediaTek SoC with Power VR GX6250, 2GB RAM and 8GB storage, expandable via microSD card up to 128GB. It includes DC Jack, HDMI out, 10/100 Ethernet and USB 2.0 ports.

The new Fire TV is equipped with Dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi (MIMO) for faster streaming and fewer dropped connections than standard Wi-Fi, supporting 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth 4.1. It also includes support for Alexa voice assistant features that made its debut with the Echo speakers.

Amazon Fire TV also supports High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) that delivers 1080p streams from Amazon Video, which is two times more efficient at encoding video than the current industry standard and to stream high quality videos uses less bandwith.
Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition is a gaming-focused bundle that contains the new Amazon Fire TV, a game controller, 32GB microSD card and two free camera namely Shovel Knight and Disney's Ducktales. The gaming controller includes a microphone and headset jack.
Amazon's Fire TV stick comes with a Voice remote which supports voice action. SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick with Wi-Fi launched in India

SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick was introduced back in July this year in the U.S. Now the product has been launched in India. It is a small USB flash drive that also doubles up as wireless server, so that users can access files stored on the drive over multiple devices.

SanDisk's Connect Wireless Stick works with laptops, smartphones and PC and connects them with its built in WiFi hotspot enabling easy sharing, transferring and accessing media contents between them. You can also wirelessly transfer and access bulky files or stream media contents from up to three mobile devices simultaneously. The device can stream HD video at 2Mbps for up to 4.5 hours on a single charge. The stick can also be plugged to PC and laptop devices to use it as a regular USB drive. 

The Connect Wireless Stick looks like a regular flash drive but has built in wireless capabilities. You have to copy the files and then switch on the wireless functionality and connect to it to access them.

SanDisk's Connect app manages content between Android, iOS, Mac, PC and Fire tablets. The app is available for download from Google Play, Apple App Store and Amazon Appstore for Android. The app also includes auto-backup of images, videos and camera roll. 

SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants are priced at Rs. 2,790, Rs. 3,790, Rs. 5,490, and Rs. 9,490 respectively. They will be available via Flipkart from September 18, and from other channels later.

Philips Hue web-enabled home lighting system launched in India, starter kit priced Rs. 16,995


Philips has introduced its Hue, its Web-enabled home lighting system, in India. With Hue you can control home lighting wireless and also create and change shades using your smartphone or tablet, even if you're not home.

The Philips Hue range for India will include, Hue Starter Kit which includes the bridge and three Hue lamps, Hue Go, Hue Beyond – the luminaire family, Friends of Hue – LightStrips and Bloom.

The Philips Hue bridge in the starter kit can be plugged into WiFi router and the three Hue lamps can be placed into the existing bulb holder. You will have to download the Hue app, which is available for Android and iOS devices, to remotely control home lighting, use customs settings and program timers to help manage daily schedules.

You will also be able to set your favorite light scenes for any room and enable them in an instant, change the shade of light from white to cool white and create ambience lighting using different colors. You can even pick any photo from your smartphone or tablet and have your living room shaded with the same color. In addition, the lamps can be used as alarms and also connect it to IFTTT to get notification when it is raining outside and similar things.
The Hue Starter Kit with bridge and three Hue lamps costs Rs. 16,995. The Hue lamps are also available separately for Rs. 3,995 each. 

Also on offer is the Hue Go bowl-shaped lamp (Rs 8,995), the Hue Beyond table lamp (Rs 22,995), the Hue Bloom spotlight (Rs 6,750), and Hue LightStrips (Rs 6,500). All of these come without the bridge.

Philips Hue lights are available through authorized Philips Light Lounges, select retail outlets of Croma  and Reliance Digital across India. It is also available from Snapdeal online.

Apple TV specs, price and availability


Apple's new version of its Apple TV comes with an revamped app store and voice-controlled remote control. The latest model also gets a hardware refresh and is now being powered by Apple A8 chip and is integrated with Siri. The new remote has a touch screen, mic and Wii-like motion control built-in. Apple TV is powered by tvOS, the iOS 9-based operating system.

As per the developer documentation, the new Apple TV comes with 2GB of RAM. The upgraded RAM is likely to boost the overall performance of Apple TV, resulting in faster opening of apps, navigating the interface, and better gaming performance.

Apple TV will be available in over 80 countries starting this October. The 32GB model costs $149 and the 64GB model sets you back by $199. Here are the complete specs-

Apple unveils Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro


Apple at its special event in San Francisco introduced Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard accessories for the iPad Pro.

Apple Pencil is a precision input device which can be used for drawing and sketching on the iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil has advanced sensors that measures both pressure and tilt for fast and fluid drawing. The technology that reads the touch on the screen has been redesigned to recognize the difference between different Pencil strokes and a finger touch.

The battery lasts for several hours and it's able to be recharged via the iPad Pro through a built-in Lightning connector. Apple Pencil works with popular apps including Mail, Notes, Procreate and Office 365 for iPad, offering new levels of productivity.


Apple's new Smart Keyboard is a full sized keyboard in a thin, durable design so you can carry it anywhere. It attaches to the iPad Pro's Smart Connector port, eliminating the need for a separate battery, on/off switch or Bluetooth pairing. It is covered in custom woven fabric and features keys that provide accuracy and stability. The keyboard is very easy to fold and can also be used as a Smart Cover. Apple unveils the new Apple TV


Apple has unveiled its new Apple TV which features a completely refreshed hardware, a new user experience and an App store built on a new operating system. Apple is also included a new remote, which has a touch screen and Wii-like motion control built-in.

It is powered by an A8 SoC and features ethernet, power and HDMI and has Bluetooth 4.0 for its remote. The Apple TV will run on a new platform, tvOS, based on iOS

The new Apple TV is now integrated with Siri, which helps you find exactly what you're searching for. You can search for movies and TV shows via Voice command on iTunes, Netflix, HBO, Hulu and Showtime, with more services to be added over time.

Siri has been designed to understand when you say "Show me family movies, animated only" or "Show that Modern Family episode with Edward Norton" and Siri will jump right to that episode's listing in Apple TV. You can also ask Siri "who is in the movie" or "What did he/she say?" It can also get more information like sports scores and weather and display it when a movie is running.

Apple also introduced a new remote, which has tactile buttons as well as glass touch surface with menu, Siri, play/pause, plus/minus and Home buttons. You can click and swipe to quickly browse through the video you're watching. You can also use the Siri button to as for something and search results which will be displayed on the TV screen. It features Bluetooth 4.0 to to connect the TV box and control for turning on or off and adjusting volume. Other features include accelerometer, gyroscope and 3-month battery life and the recharging is done via Lightning connector.

Some of the apps that were demoed are apps from Netflix, HBO Now and Hulu with redefined and improves user interface. Apple also showcased a number of games like Galaxy On Fire, Rayman Adventures, Disney Infinity Star Wars, Guitar Hero, and more.

Apple TV: apps will be universal between Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone. Once you purchase the app on any of your iOS device, you will be able to play across all of them.

Apple TV will come in two models, 32GB model and 64GB model. The 32GB model is priced at$149 and the 64GB costs $199. It will release in October in 80 countries.

YU YUPIX compact photo printer with WiFi and NFC launched for Rs. 6999


Microxmax backed YU launched a portable photo printer, the YUPIX. It us a compact pocket-sized printer that can print high quality photos in less that 60 seconds after capture.

YUPIX has in-built WiFi and NFC connectivity. You will need to download the YUPIX app on compatible devices which they can use to edit and print the photos wirelessly. It comes with a unique cartridge which has an integrated Ink Ribbon & Photo Paper, integrated into it, making it waterproof and dustproof.

The YUPIX can print up to 10 photos continuously, with images printed in 2.1 x 3.4-inch size offering 291 dpi, thanks to the Dye Sublimation technology. It is backed by 750mAh rechargable battery and is currently compatible with Android devices, with iOS support coming soon.

YUPIX is priced at Rs. 6,999 and is now available to buy exclusively on Amazon India. A pack of two YUPIX printer cartridges which can print 20 photos is also listed on Amazon for Rs 649.

Samsung's SmartThings hub helps monitor your home


At the IFA 2015 Samsung event last week Samsung announced a line of products for the next gen SmartThing HUB including an upgraded Hub, sensors and SmartThings app.

Samsung's SmartThings Hub is equipped with a powerful processor that enables video monitoring and offers battery backup of 10 hours in case of power outage. The Hub is also able to process some automations locally without an internet connection. The sensors are now smaller and have sleek design.

Samsung also introduced Smart Home Monitor that acts around the hub and enables video monitoring capability. It provides information about potential break-ins, smoke and fire alerts, and other household calamities by delivering real-time notifications and video clips from multiple cameras via the SmartThings app on your smartphone.

The SmartThings app is compatible with iOS and Android and have been redesigned to include easier navigation and more intuitive experience. You can directly organize and control devices by room, and customize actions to occur automatically based on preset routine.
The hub can also be used to connect things like security camers, thermostats and other smart home gadget. It is compatible with a range of SmartThings-branded devices as well as other Samsung products.

SmartThings can be purchased from Shop.SmartThings.com, Samsung.com, Amazon.com and physical stores across the U.S. The new Hub retails for $99 with sensors ranging between $30 and $55 each. SmartThings will be available in the U.K. at select Currys PC World stores and online at Samsung.com and currys.co.uk beginning September 10. The Hub retails for £99 and the Starter Kit is £199.

Samsung SleepSense aims to help you sleep


Samsung at its IFA event last week announced SleepSense, a personal health care device that lets you monitor and manage your sleep. It is a small sensor in the form of a flat disk that tracks your sleep by placing it under a bed's matress providing contact-less monitor of your heart and respiratory rates, plus your movement while you are asleep. 

With the new SleepSense, you can easily understand your sleep patterns and learn how to improve it without having to seek advice, making it your personal sleep consultant. It uses patented technology to analyse your sleep quantity and quality and provides personlised sleep reports and offers expert recommendation on how to improve your sleep via mobile app.

The app offers daily sleep scores and reports that are calculated based on seven elements- total sleep time, sleep efficiency, time it took to fall asleep, number of times you woke up, number of times you got out of bed, percentage of time in REM (rapid eye movement) and percentage of time in deep sleep.
Since SleepSense is a IoT device, it can also be connected to Samsung's smart appliances allowing you to control air conditioning units and to turn off the television when falling asleep for creating better sleep environment. The sensor can also be connected to the Samsung SmartThings app that controls devices in your house including thermostats, security cameras, and lightbulbs – all of which may affect or assist your sleeping conditions.

Samsung claims that SleepSense "is an accurate sleep tracking sensor – with up to 97% accuracy" available in the market.

Asus outs RT-AC5300 Tri-Band wireless Router, claims it to be the fastest

Asus at IFA 2015, announced a new router,  the RT-AC5300 Tri-Band wireless Router which the company claims to be the world’s fastest WiFi router.

RT-AC5300 come with Broadcom NitroQAM chip that offers up to 1000Mbit/s on 2.4GHz band and up to 1267Mbits/s on two 5GHz bands each, for a combines speeds of up to 5334Mbit/s. The four 4 transmit and four receive antenna configuration  improves WiFi range and signal with a coverage of up to 500 square meters. The router has four gigabit LAN ports, USB 3.0 port and a USB 2.0 port on the back.

It also comes with tri-band Smart Connect, which ensures that each device is assigned automatically to the most appropriate band for maximum speed and ability. The Multi-user MIMO (MU MIMO) offers maximum speeds without slowing down the network when multiple devices are connected. There is also a link aggregation (802.11ad) which combines two LAN ports into one superfast 2Gbit/s wired connection.

Acer unveils new Predator series monitors with G-SYNC, 4K and curves


Acer also introduced two new Predator Gaming monitors, Z35 and XB1 which packs NVIDA's G-SYNC technology. 

The Predator Z35 sports 35-inch 21:9 UltraWide Full HD (2560x1080) panel with a curvature of 2000R for an immersive gaming experience. It comes with NVIDIA ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur) technology that reduces motion blur and keeps your edges sharp. It also house powerful audio with DTS Sound  2 x 9W speakers and Acer's TrueHarmony technology.

The Predator XB1 come in two screen models, 27-inch and 28-inch. The 27-inch models (XB271HK / XB271HU) feature a ZeroFrame edge-to-edge design with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) or WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS panels that support 100% of the sRGB color gamut, while the XB271HU supports NVIDIA ULMB. The 28-inch model (XB281HK) features a 4K UHD panel. 

The Acer predator Z35 monitor prices start at $1199.99 | €1,099 and will be available in North America and EMEA regions in December. The Predator XB1 series monitor prices start a $799.99 | €699 and will hit EMEA region first in October, follower by North America in November.

LG's new SmartThinQ Sensor monitors home appliances

LG's new gadget, SmartThinQ Sensor works with traditional home appliances and helps you monitor day to day home appliances and let you control them.

SmartThinQ Sensor is a circular device and can be attached to existing home appliances such as washing machine or refregirator, to sense feedback such as vibration and temperature. 

For instance, attaching the sensor to a washing machine door transforms its into a smart appliance and you will be informed when the washing is done. When attached to refrigerator SmartThinQ sensor will send a notification to a paired smartphone when a particular food is about to expire. It can also be connected to an air conditioner or other appliances which allows users to take control remotely via SmartThinQ app. The sensor also keeps track of how many time you opened the door even when you're not at home. 

LG also introduced an AllJoyn compatible Smart Lightwave oven and Smart Air Conditioner. AllJoyn is a collaborative open-source software framework that makes it easy for devices and apps to discover and communicate with each other.

The Smart Lightwave Oven from LG is WiFi enabled and users can download, update and share recipes with friends via their mobile devices. It can even perform self-diagnosis and help find solutions and repair information online via LG's service center. While the Smart Air Conditioner can be controlled via smartphone and will inform owners when to replace the air filter.

The gadgets will be showcased at IFA event in Berlin next week.

LG's Rolly Keyboard, a portable wireless keyboard that folds into a stick


LG electronics introduced Rolly Keyboard, a rollable wireless portable keyboard. It folds up along the four rows to create an easy-to-carry stick that fits into one's pocket.

The keyboard features high-contrast keys and a fold-out mobile device stand to support smartphone and tablets up to 10-inch in size. It has 17mm key pitch that makes typing extremely easy and comfortable.

Made out of impact-resistant and durable polycarbonate and ABS plastic, there are two sturdy arms fold out to support smartphone and tablet in an upright position. It pairs with your Android devices via Bluetooth 3.0 which is activated by simply unfolding it. The keyboard also has auto pairing function to connect two devices at the same time. You can toggle between the two devices with a simple key press. For power, it uses single AAA battery that promises up to 3 months of battery life on average use.

LG's Rolly Keyboard will be available in the U.S in September followed by Europe, Latin Americaa and Asia in Q4 2016. Pricing and availabilty details will be announced locally. The keyboard will be showcased at IFA, Berlin scheduled for September 4 to 9.

Samsung announces three 360 wireless speakers - R1, R3 and R5


Samsung Electronics announced three new Wireless Audio 360 speaker, the R5, R3 and R1. The speakers are omni-directional and sports premium tablet top design that enables them to  fit seamlessly into any home. They provide high quality balanced sound.

The R5, R3 and R1 features a new built-in tap-and-swipe and physical control options for hassle free user experience. You can change the volume, play pause or select a different music source with a gentle touch, tap or swipe on the top of the speaker.

They come with a improved Multiroom app that can be used on smartphones, tablets and smartwatches as well. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and allows you to seamlessly share music across devices that are connected over the same WiFi network. Users can also easily find and select music, and create playlists all from a single screen.

The app also works with Samsung Gear S and Samsung's upcoming smartwatch with which you can control music playback and volume control as well as playlist and queue searching. You can also view 'now playing' screen and access list of available speakers with a simple swipe on your smartwatch.

The speakers will be available in the U.S and European market in Q3 2015 with prices ranging from $199 to $399. They will be showcased during IFA, Berlin which is scheduled for September 4 to 9.

LG introduces Music Flow P5 and SoundPop 360 Bluetooth speakers


LG introduced two new models of Bluetooth speakers, the Music Flow P5 (NP5550) and SoundPop 360 (NP7860). Both the speakers will be debuting IFA 2015 in Berlin.

LG Music Flow P5 supports LG's Auto Music Play feature which automatically begins music playback when the audio source comes within range. It has 10W output and has a 2100mAh battery that promises 15 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. It weighs just 600g.

LG SoundPop 360 has an unconventional design that is said to inspired by a coffee tumbler and is extremely portable. It is a perfect fit for any interior decorating scheme and blends with the user's other furniture and appliances. The cylindrical speaker has a 360 degree range, delivering clear audio even for large group. It promises up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge.


Both speakers supports multi-point connectivity so that users can connect the speakers to three Bluetooth devices at the same time, and simultaneously control the devices and share music.The speakers also have TV Sound Sync feature that allows either speaker to be connected to a Bluetooth-compatible TV to create a personal home theater. 

LG's Music Flow P5 is priced at $99 and will be available sometime in October in the U.S. It will be also be available in India for Rs. 8,990. As for SoundPop 360, the pricing and availability details are not outed yet. Both speaker will be displayed at IFA 2015 from September 4-9. 

Google introduces the $200 'OnHub' Smart Wi-Fi Router


Google launched a new WiFi router called OnHub, its latest IoT (Internet of Things) device It is a cylindrical-shaped router and can also function as a smart home hub which can connect to other home appliances. According to Google, OnHub's circular design will allow the router have better coverage in a house.

The router comes with 13 antenna (six 2.4GHz antennas, six 5GHz antennas and a congestion-sensing antenna) that will automatically scan the airwaves to spot the fastest connection. User can prioritise a device for data heavy activities such as downloading content or steaming movies.

OnHub router is powered by Qualcomm chip with 1GB RAM and 4GB storage. It will be automatically updated with new features and security updates. It offers connectivity options such as Bluetooth Smart Ready and Weave. The router connects to Android and iOS devices via Google's On app to run network checks and keep track of bandwidth use.

Google has partnered with TP-LINK to manufacture the router. Google will also partner with Asus soon to launch OnHub devices in the future.

Google's OnHub costs 200 (Rs. 13,000) and is up for pre-order via Play Store, TP-LINK store, Walmart and Amazon in the U.S.
