TP-LINK unveils Talon AD7200, world’s first 802.11ad Router


At CES 2016, networking products provider TP-LINK announced the Talon AD7200 Multi-Band WiFi Router, the first router in the world based on 802.11ad wireless technology. It offers speeds of up to 4.6Gbps on 60GHz bands and channels..

It is powered by 802.11ad and 11ac MU-MIMO solutions from Qualcomm Atheros, a subsidiary of Qualcomm. It also utilizes existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, which delivers a combined WiFi speed of 7Gbps as well as combine 802.11ad with 802.11ac MU-MIMO. The router is equipped with 1.4GHz dual-core processor, enabling high speed connectivity with seamless coverage.

The router transmits locally stored media files and conten from cloud faster, ensuring the devices function at prime performance. Users can download an entire feature length 4K HD video in just 4 minutes or transfer 1000 of photos to a storage device in about five seconds.

The TP-LINK Talon AD7200 is claimed to deliver 2.5 times better performance compared to 11ac, which supporting several devices simultaneously for gaming and streaming. It also boasts eight antennas with high-powered amplifiers to supercharge the WiFi signal. This way smartphones and other devices will be connected to the network all the time.

The TP-LINK Talon AD7200 will be available in the U.S in early 2016. Pricing is not known.

Asus outs RT-AC5300 Tri-Band wireless Router, claims it to be the fastest

Asus at IFA 2015, announced a new router,  the RT-AC5300 Tri-Band wireless Router which the company claims to be the world’s fastest WiFi router.

RT-AC5300 come with Broadcom NitroQAM chip that offers up to 1000Mbit/s on 2.4GHz band and up to 1267Mbits/s on two 5GHz bands each, for a combines speeds of up to 5334Mbit/s. The four 4 transmit and four receive antenna configuration  improves WiFi range and signal with a coverage of up to 500 square meters. The router has four gigabit LAN ports, USB 3.0 port and a USB 2.0 port on the back.

It also comes with tri-band Smart Connect, which ensures that each device is assigned automatically to the most appropriate band for maximum speed and ability. The Multi-user MIMO (MU MIMO) offers maximum speeds without slowing down the network when multiple devices are connected. There is also a link aggregation (802.11ad) which combines two LAN ports into one superfast 2Gbit/s wired connection.

Pricing and availability details are yet to be announced.
