Xiaomi Mi 4c with 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 808, USB Type-C gets official

Xiaomi has unveiled its mid-ranged Mi 4c smartphone in Beijing, China. Xiaomi Mi 4c is a new variant of the Mi 4i handset which launched earlier this year in India. The two devices look identical on the outside, but Mi 4c packs more powerful hardware. It is Xiaomi's first device to house USB Type-C port. The phone has a plastic build, measure 7.8mm around the waist and weighs 132g.

Xiaomi Mi 4c features 5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS fully laminated display with Sunlight Display technology, which improves readability in sunlight. Inside there is a Hexa-Core Snapdragon 808 (4x 1.44GHz ARM A53 + 2 x 1.8 GHz ARM A57) 64-bit processor with Adreno 418 GPU. It comes in two RAM/ROM model- 2GB RAM w/ 16GB and 3GB RAM w/ 32GB. It runs MIUI 7 based on Android Lollipop.

For imaging, there is 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash Sony IMX258 or Samsung S5k3M2 ISOCELL sensor and PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus). On the front sits a 5-megapixel shooter with 85-degree wide angle lens.

On the connectivity front the dual-SIM phone supports 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac dual-band (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB Type-C. It also packs in a microUSB to USB Type-C converter. This means a normal MicroUSB charger can also be used to charge the device. It is fueled by 3080mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 support.



The Mi 4c has an infrared sensor that lets you control your TV, DVR and other gadgets. It also comes with a wide range of gestures. For instance, double tap to wake up the screen. Also, it supports Edge Tap at both sides of the Mi 4c that respond to light taps. For example, double tap to go back and single tap to snap a photo in Camera.


Xiaomi Mi 4c will be available in a range of attractive colors including white, black, blue, pink and orange. Xiaomi will sell the Mi 4c in a new orange retail box, compared to the brown cardboard packaging it usually uses. 

Xiaomi Mi 4c is priced at 1299 Yuan ($205 | Rs. 13,500) for the 2G RAM w/ 16GB storage model and 1499 Yuan ($235 | Rs. 15,500) for the 3GB RAM w/ 32GB model. Xiaomi is also selling an optional USB Type-C adapter for CNY 5 (Rs, 50). It will be available for order in China starting September 23 viami.com and Tmall.com. There is no word on global availability.
