Acer Chromebook R 13 with 13.3-inch display, MediaTek processor announced

In addition to the new line of convertibles (Spin) and notebooks (Swift), Acer also introduced Chromebook R 13. The Chromebook R 13 is the first Chromebook to feature 13.3-inch display and utilize MediaTek processor.

The Chromebook R 13 gets a touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and is powered by quad-core MediaTek M8173C Core Pilot processor further aided by PowerVR GX6250 graphics and 4GB RAM. It also has 720p webcam and offers up to 12 hours of battery life.

Connectivity duties are handled by 2.2 MIMO WiFi 802.11ac, a USB 3.0 port, a USB-C (for charging), an HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0 and headphone jack. It comes with 360-degree hinge that allows it to be used in four modes – Laptop, Display, Tent and Tablet.

Despite the bigger screen size, the Chromebook R 13 is slim at 15.5mm and lightweight at 1.49kg. It is also likely to get Google Play Store and support for Android apps in the near future.

The Acer Chromebook R 13 comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage models, and will be available in the U.S in October, with prices starting at $399.
