Acer announces Switch 3, Switch 5 convertibles with fanless cooling system


At its next@acer global press conference in New York, Acer expanded its popular Switch 2-in-1 tablet line up with two new models – Switch 3 and Switch 5 – running Windows 10 and sporting versatile, highly-mobile 2-in-1 design, coupled with unique features for work, school and fun.

The Switch 3 and Switch 5 supports digital pen inputs via Acer's Active Pen (featuring palm rejection and 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity) on the touch screen to sketch, take notes or annotate documents or photos with Microsoft's Windows Ink feature. They come with a detachable keyboard  that snaps on with ultra-secure magnets and can be adjusted to an ergonomic angle. And thanks to the 2-in-1 design, both can be transitioned between notebook and tablet modes seamlessly.

Acer Switch 5
The Switch 5 is the follow up model of Switch Alpha 12, and builds on its features with upgraded hardware. It sports Acer's patented auto-retracting U-shaped kickstand, so that you can easily adjust the kickstand, with just one hand. The kickstand holds up the display and be adjusted to any angle up to 165 degrees. It also comes with Acer's proprietary LiquidLoop fanless cooling system to keep the operation silent, without fan noise, making it ideal meetings and open offices.

The Switch 5 has a 12-inch wide-view FHD+ IPS touch display bearing the resolution 2160 x 1440 pixels and will be offered with 7th Generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor. It comes with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB/512GB PCIe SSD, and includes a microSDXC slot, USB 3.1 Type-C port, a USB 3.1 Type-A port, WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0.

There's also a fingerprint reader on the power button for logging into the system securely via Windows Hello. The 2-in-1 promises up to 10.5 hours of battery life and comes with HD front and rear cameras and back-lit keyboard with a large trackpad with Precision TouchPad that supports Windows 10 gestures.

Acer is also offering an optional USB Type-C Dock (purchase separately), that transforms the Switch 5 to a powerful workstation. This compact dock enables high-speed video, audio and data transfer and keeps the work area clutter-free with immediate connectivity to an additional display and other devices. It houses a DisplayPort, HDMI, 2 x USB 3.1 Type-C ports, 3 x USB Type-A ports and audio/mic port.

The Acer Switch 5 will be available in North America in June starting at $799; in EMEA in June starting at €1,099; and in China in July starting at ¥7,499.

Acer Switch 3
The Acer Switch 3 is a budget tablet aimed at students featuring U-shaped adjustable kickstand, 12.2-inch Full HD IPS display with 178-degree viewing angle and will be available with the option of Intel Pentium or Intel Celeron. It comes with up to 4GB RAM and storage options inlcude 32GB, 64GB or 128GB eMMC storage. It offers up to eight hours of battery life and Like the Switch5, the Switch 3 also has front facing speakers, front and rear Full HD cameras, a microSDXC slot, USB 3.1 Type-C port, a USB 3.1 Type-A port, WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0.

The Switch 3 will be available in North America in June starting at $399; in EMEA in June starting at €499; and in China in July starting at ¥4,999.
