Android Nougat adoption rate hits 11.5 percent

Another month, and Google is out with an updated Android distribution numbers. The figures for the month of June has been released, and reveals that Android Nougat has crossed the 10 percent barrier. Interestingly it took 10 months for Nougat to cross the 10 percent mark.

Nougat is now present on 11.5 percent of active Android devices accessing Google Play services, an increase in two percent than last month. As you already know, Android Nougat is soon going to be replaced by Android O, and now with almost all devices shipping with Nougat (including India brands like Intex, Karbonn, Lava), we can only expect the number to increase over time.

Android Marshmallow, which released in 2015, is running on majority of devices with 31.8 percent share of the pie, up 0.6 percent, compared to last month's figure. Android Lollipop is the second most used Android operating system running on 30.1 percent of devices, but is down 0.6 percent than last month.

Android KitKat was down one percent and is now present in 17.1 percent of devices. The older Android versions, Android Jelly Bean (4.1,4.2,4.3), had a combined share of 8.1 percent, down 0.7 percent than last month, while Android Icecream and Gingerbread had the same share and stood at 0.7 percent, down 0.1 percent compared to last month.

It's worth mentioning that, the Android Distribution numbers are gathered from devices running Android 2.2 and above visiting the Play Store. This means device running older version like Android Honecom and Froyo are not included. Also devices that don't have Google Play installed like Android phone and tablets in China, are not taken into account.
