Android Nougat adoption hits 13.5 percent


Google has released the Android distribution data for the month of August, and as per the latest numbers Nougat is picking up pace in terms of adoption, ahead of Android O release.

Android Nougat now runs on 13.5 percent, up two percent compared to last month 11.5 percent share. This can be further broken down as 12.3 percent for Nougat v.7.0, and 1.2 percent for Nougat v7.1.

Marshmallow (v6.0) is now present on most of devices, grabbing 32.3 percent share of the pie, a rise of 0.5 percent compared to last month's 31.8 percent. However, all other Android versions saw a decline.

Lollipop which was running on 30.1 percent of active Android devices, lost 0.9 percent share of the pie, and is now present on 29.2 percent devices. Android 4.4 KitKat also declined from last month's 17.1 percent to 16 percent, a drop of 1.1 percent share.

The outdated versions, Android Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3) had a combined share of 7.6 percent, down 0.5 percent, than last months 8.1 percent share. Lastly Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread distribution numbers remained unchanged at stayed at 0.7 percent.

The Android Distribution numbers are gathered from devices running Android 2.2 accessed the Play Store in a seven-day period ending on August 8, 2017. It's worth mentioning that devices running older Android version like Honeycomb and Froyo are not included. Also devices that don't have Google Play installed like Android phone and tablets in China, are not taken into account as well.
