Microsoft announces Continuum for phones, turns Windows 10 phones into a PC


Microsoft announced that Continuum will be coming to Windows 10 for phones. With Continuum, users can use their Windows 10 Phone like a computer. Users can do so by connecting their phone to an external monitor via HDMI, along with a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse.The user interface will adapt to fit the monitor.

This feature is better experience with Univesal Windows app. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore at Build 2015 keynote showed off Microsoft Office running from a phone on an external screen, and on the big display the UI was similar to Word app running on PC.

There are no details yet on which smartphones will support the Continnum feature. However Microsoft said the the feature will be built into "select premium phones" running Windows 10.

Microsoft lets developers port existing iOS, Android apps to Windows 10


Microsoft at its Build 2015 event announced that Android and iOS developers will be able to easily repackage their apps to run on Windows. Microsoft is making software kits available for Android and iOS. The codes will make it simple for developers to port their iOS and Android Apps to Windows 10.

Developers will be able to reuse nearly all the Java and C++ code from an Android app to create apps for phones running Windows 10. Developers will also be able to compile the Objective-C code for their iOS apps to work on Windows 10 using new tools in Visual studio. 

Microsoft has given interesting code names to the porting tools - For Android Version the codename is Project Astoria and for iOS the codename is Project Islandwood.

Microsoft also revealed that Kings's Candy Crush for Windows Phone is actually an iOS game and we have all be play it without even knowing it. Developer King has to change only a few percent of the code in order to fully port the game to Windows Phone.

Microsoft is also looking to enable website and Windows 10 desktops apps to convert to Windows 10 universal apps. Microsoft has worked on a method for website owners to easily create web apps and publish them on the Windows store. Website owners can also use system services like notifications and in-app purchases.

Microsoft's internet browser Project Spartan is called Microsoft Edge


Microsoft internet browser codenamed 'Project Spartan' now has a name. Microsoft at Build 2015 announced that the new web browser for Windows 10 will be called ' Microsoft Edge'.

Edge will have features such as built in note taking and sharing. It will have new tab page, which is located in the address bar in the middle of the pages. It will display top pages, apps associated with those pages and  a handful of featured apps. Microsoft's digital assistant Cortana will be also be built-in to the browser.

Another major feature is Web Extensions written via HTML and Javascript will be supported. Microsoft's Joe Belifore said that any extensions made for Chrome and Firefox will work with Edge with 'just a few modifications'.

More details about Microsoft Edge will be revealed at Microsoft Edge Web Summit which will be on on May 5-6 at Microsoft's Silicon Valley offices, located in Mountain View California.

In addition, Kyle Alden, member of the Microsoft Edge browser team posted the logo of Microsoft Edge. The new logo looks similar to the Old logo, but the 'e' is stylized and ditches the ring in favor of broken curved edge on the top left side.
