Microsoft Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 lands in India


Microsoft has finally launched the Surface Pro 4 tablet in India. Surprisingly, the company also launched the Surface Pro 3 as well. The prices start at Rs. 89,990 for the Surface Pro 4.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Surface Pro will be exclusively available via Amazon India for the first six months. The pre-orders are now live and the shipping will begin January 14. No more than three units can be ordered per customer. 

Microsoft is offering three models of the Surface Pro 4 and only one model of Surface 3 on Amazon India. Here are the variants and the pricing-
  • Surface Pro 4 with Core i5/4GB of RAM/128GB SSD -Rs. 89,990
  • Surface Pro 4 with Core i5/8GB of RAM/256GB SSD - Rs. 1,20,990
  • Surface Pro 4 with Core i7/8GB of RAM/256GB SSD - Rs. 1,44,990
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD - Rs. 73,900
The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 comes bundled with Surface Pen, but in the case of Surface Pro 3 it should be purchased separately. Other accessories available are Type Cover and Surface Dock, which also have to be purchased separately. They are compatible with Surface Pro 3 as well.

HCL is the Authorized Distributor in India while Orient Computers, Frontier and Team will be Authorized Re-seller for the Surface Pro Series in India. The Surface devices will come with one-year swap warranty that will be fulfilled by Microsoft care centers. Interestingly Microsoft is also acknowledging warranty on Surface devices purchased abroad under local warranty policy.

Microsoft will also showcase the devices at Microsoft Priority Stores in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Bangalore, and Mumbai for a live demo. In addition Microsoft in partnership with Amazon India has introduced 'Book a Demo' service. You will have to sign up for a demo, and a representative will visit your office at a scheduled time and give you a demo of the Surface Pro 4. This service is only available in Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Mumbai at first and is only available for office addresses.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 India prices could start at Rs. 67,900


Last month, Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella announced that the Surface Pro 4 tablet would launch in India in January. Now if a new report is to be believed, the Surface Pro 4 prices in India will start from Rs. 67,999 and will go up to Rs. 1,32,999 for the top model. If the information is correct, the pricing is directly in line with that of Apple's iPad Pro which also starts at Rs. 67,900.

Sources say that there is 1% chance that the prices may change due to USD to INR conversion rates at the time of import, otherwise the pricing is 99% legit. The base model with Intel core M3 processor with 128GB storage and 4GB RAM is priced at Rs. 67,999. The same configuration with the powerful i5 Skylake processor will cost Rs. 74,999. The model with core i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage will cost 95,999.

Lastly the top end model with i7 processor 8GB RAM and 256GB storage will cost Rs. 1,18,499, and the same model with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage could set you back by Rs. 1,32,999.

Like the iPad Pro, the Surface Pro 4 also comes with a number of accessories, which you will have to purchase seperately including Type Keyboard with improved chiclet style keys and bigger trackpad and Surface Pen which automatically attaches to the tablet.

Spec-wise, the Surface Pro 4 sports a 12.3-inch (2160 x 1440 pixels) display and has a new display technology called PixelGlass that has 1024 different pressure sensitivity level. The tablet is equipped with 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera. It runs Windows 10 Pro. It supports Windows Hello face authentication using the camera as well as fingerprint sensor for authentication on the new Type Cover. The Type Cover offers a laptop-like keyboard experience with a large trackpad. There is also a stylus simply dubbed the Pen, which offers 1,024 levels of pressure and can last more than a year with a single charge.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is coming to India by January 2016, confirms Satya Nadella


At Microsoft's Future Unleashed event in Mumbai, India, CEO Satya Nadella announced that the latest Surface Pro 4 tablet will launch in India by January 2016. He said that Microsoft had a lot of demand for Surface devices from India, hence they are finally bringing it. Apart from the availability no other details were shared.

The Microsoft Suface Pro 4 was unveiled at the Windows 10 devices event in October. It was priced starting $899 (Rs. 59,000). The Surface Pro 4 will be the first Surface device to make its debut in India.

The Surface Pro 4 sports a 12.3-inch (2160 x 1440 pixels) display and has a new display technology called PixelGlass, that has 1024 different pressure sensitivity level. Inside there is Intel's latest Skylake processors with support for up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It is equipped with 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera. Microsoft Surface Pro 4 announced


Microsoft at its Windows 10 Devices event has officially announced the Surface Pro 4. It is now available for pre-order, starting from $899 and will go on sale from October 26.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 sports a 12.3-inch (2736 x 1824 pixel) PixelGlass display that has 1024 different pressure sensitivity levels. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which is only 0.4mm thick. The PixelGlass display is optimized for both touch and pen input.

It comes with a choice of Intel's 6th gen Core processors from Core M3 to Core i5 and Core i7 which are powered by Intel HD Graphics 515, Intel HD Graphics 520 and Intel Iris Graphics accordingly. Microsoft says that the Surface Pro 4 is 50 percent faster than Apple's MacBook Air and 30 percent faster than the Surface pro 3. 
It comes with up to 16GB RAM (4GB, 8GB or 16GB) and up to 1TB SSD storage (128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB SSD options). There is  a full-size USB 3.0, microSD card reader, 3.5mm headset jack, Mini DisplayPort, Type Cover port, Surface Connect and fingerprint scanner. Also on board is a 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front facing camera and a hybrid cooling system.The Surface Pro 4 will offer up to 9 hours of battery life. All this is wrapped up in a body that's just 8.4mm thick. 
Microsoft also outed the Surface pen which comes with a full year of battery life. It comes with a tail eraser with stickiness and friction. The pen includes 1024 levels of pressure and magnetically latches to the side of the tablet. Double clicking on the Surface Pen button will launch the OneNote app and users can hold down to activate Cortana in Windows 10. It comes in five colors and will support interchangeable pen tips to emulate the feel of a pencil, ballpoint and more. It costs $60 and is now available for pre-order. 
There is also a new Type Cover which comes with more spacious keys on the keyboard. It also a glass trackpad which is 40 percent larger than the previous cover. The new Type Cover also has fingerprint sensor, allowing it to work with Windows Hello biometric login feature on Windows 10. Microsoft claims the new Type Cover to be lighter, thinner and sturdier. It works with Surface Pro 4 as well as Surface Pro 3. It is priced $130.
Microsoft also announced a new Surface Pro docking station which is compatible with Surface Pro 3 and Pro 4. It features four USB 3.0 ports, two DisplayPorts (supporting up to 4K resolution monitors and Full Ethernet Port. It is priced at $200 and is up for pre-orders.
