Asus ZenFone AR Tango smartphone with 8GB RAM gets official


At the ongoing CES 2017 in Las Vegas, Asus has officially unveiled the ZenFone AR boasting a number under specialties under the hood. The ZenFone AR is the second smartphone after Lenovo Phab 2 Pro to get Tango functionality.

For those unaware Tango is an augmented reality (AR) platform that combines camera, gyroscope and accelerator to estimate six degree of motion tracking, providing the user the ability to track 3D motion of a device while simultaneously.

For Tango, the ZenFone AR is equipped with 23MP Sony IMX318 rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, OIS, EIS and 4K video recording plus a motion tracking camera and a fisheye depth-sensing camera.

The ZenFone AR runs Android Nougat with Zen UI 3.0 on top and supports Google Daydream platform for virtual reality, making it the first smartphone to support both Tango AR and Daydream VR platform. It's also got the biggest RAM to date which is 8GB.


Coming to the other specs, the ZenFone AR features 5.7-inch quad-HD Super AMOLED display with a layer of Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 and is powered by Snapdragon 821 processor. It comes with multiple configuration of 6GB or 8GB RAM and storage options of 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

Connectivity duties are handled by hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and USB Type-C port. Other features include 8MP front camera, fingerprint scanner, Asus SonicMaster-powered speakers, DTS Headphone: X with virtual 7.1 surround sound and an advanced vapor cooling system. A 3300mAh battery backed by Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology keeps the lights on.

The Asus ZenFone AR comes in Charcol Black color with leather finish and will hit the market starting from Q2, 2017. Pricing and exact date of availability is not known yet.
