LG gives its Gram laptop line up, a 2017 refresh with Kaby Lake

LG is refreshing it Gram ultra-light weight and ultra-slim laptop lineup for 2017. The company is offering new Gram models with 13.3-, 14- and 15.6- inch screen sizes.

They feature Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS near-edgeless touch display, Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Kaby Lake processor, up to 512GB SSD and up to 16GB DDR4 RAM. The 13.3-inch and 14-inch model comes with a feature called Daylight mode, which enhances the screen brightness making it viewable under bright sunlight.

All the three models have fingerprint reader for Windows Hello login, backlit keyboard, HDMI, WiFI 802.11ac, microSD card reader, USB 3.0 port and USB Type-C ports for video signal, data transfer and charging. The battery inside is 60Wh, which is said to be the highest capacity in the industry to-date.

The Gram 14 is claimed to offer battery life of up to 24 hours. LG says that it was able to boost the battery performance by weight loss in the material design, thanks to the use of carbon magnesium alloy, and a new display technology that takes full advantage of the battery.

However according to the Verge, the benchmark test used by the company for this claim turned out to be a 10-year old measurement tool. A more recent benchmark tool estimated about 17 hours of battery life.

Despite having a bigger battery the 13-inch model weighs 940g, the 14-inch model weighs in at 970g and the 15.6-inch model weighs 1090g.

The pricing and availability of LG Gram 13, Gram 14 and Gram 15 is not known yet.
