Popular caller ID app Truecaller has introduced a new caller ID service for feature phones with no internet connectivity. Initially the service will be available in India exclusively on Airtel networks.
“This is the first-of-its-kind service that we are providing with Airtel in India. We want to work towards ensuring that more and more users are able to enjoy this service for now.”
Truecaller's caller ID service allows users to know the name of the person calling, even if the caller's number is not saved in the phone contact. For feature phones users, the caller ID service will deliver a flash SMS with callers details, before they receive the call from an unknown number.
The
new service is expected to roll out later this month in the country as a
subscription based service. The pricing and plans is yet to be
revealed.
The company also plans to expand the new caller ID service to other markets later.

Truecaller has added a new feature called Transliteration to its Android app, which activates real-time Hindi transliteration of the caller ID function. It will run on Android devices that run Truecaller version 6.10 onwards.
To activate the new feature, you need to go to settings of the app and enable the Hindi language translation option to activate it. Once enabled, the next incoming call will display the caller information in Hindi. The company will be adding, support for other Indian languages as well, in the coming months.
"We realized the importance and relevance of being able to fully explore
the potential of our app for the non-English speaking users and decided
to offer it as an added feature to them," said Kari Krishnamurthy, vice
president, growth and partnerships, Asia and country manager Truecaller
India.
Truecaller currently has 100 million users in India, and is aiming to cross 150 million mark by the end of this year. To achieve this target, Truecaller is focusing on users in Tier I and Tier II cities in the country, keeping this in mind, they introduced the new Transliteration feature.
