2016 Nexus smartphones could be made by HTC

Last year, Google for the first time launched two Nexus smartphones - the LG made Nexus 5X and Huawei made Nexus 6P. Now a new rumor coming out of China suggests that Google will repeat the trend and will launch two nexus devices this year, and surprisingly, both will be manufactured by HTC.

The rumors also claims that this year's Nexus phone will have 5-inch and 5.5-inch displays as compared to  5.2-inch of the Nexus 5X and 5.7-inch of the Nexus 6P. It looks like Google is reducing the display size of the device to be more in the smartphone range, and not the Phablet category.

Developer turned reliable HTC tipster LlabTooFeR has also corroborated the rumors and revealed the internal codenames of the HTC made Nexus devices - T50 and T55. The T50 could be the 5-inch nexus device while the T55 the 5.5-inch nexus device. No other details are known about these phones for now.

HTC is no stranger to Nexus devices. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer made the first ever Nexus smartphone for Google, the Nexus One, back in 2010. Later in 2014, HTC made the Nexus 9 tablet for Google.

Over the years, Google has partnered with a number of manufacturers including Samsung, LG, Motorola, Huawei for its Nexus devices.

If the rumors turn out to be true, the nexus smartphones lineup will bring HTC back in the game. The company has been struggling to sell its devices last year, losing money quarter after quarter.
