Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris with iris recognition launched in India for Rs. 13,499


Samsung India today launched Galaxy Tab Iris with iris-recognition technology which falls under 'Make for India' initiative. The tablets is Aadhaar-compliant and STQC-certified (Standardization, Testing and Quality Certificate) for empowering the governments vision of Digital India.

The tablet is targeted at government benefit programs, enterprises, banks, education and financial institutions. The biometric function allows the tablet to be used for user authentication, paperless transactions and more, and comes handy in areas like insurance and passport verification. Samsung will also offer SDK to other companies to use the iris-scanning feature to develop Adhar-compliant apps for e-KYC and e-Sign.

As for the specs, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris comes with 7-inch WSVGA (1024 x 600 pixels) display and is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card (up to 200GB). It comes with 5MP rear camera, runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, backed by 3600mAh battery and supports 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB OTG connectivity.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris is priced at Rs. 13,499, and will announce the availability details soon. However the tablet will be targeted at enterprises.
