Samsung Galaxy On Nxt receiving Android Nougat in India


Samsung launched the Galaxy On Nxt in India last year running Android Marshmallow. And now it has started seeding Nougat for the Galaxy On Nxt.

The software version for Galaxy On Nxt's Nougat update is G610FXXU1BH8 and the download size is 1139.63MB. The update is rolling out over the air, and if you have not been notified by the update, check for it manually by going to Settings ->About Phone -> Software Update. Since this is a major OS upgrade, make sure your handset is connected to a WiFi network, and have atleast 50 percent charge and 2GB of free storage space, before starting the download and installation process.

According to the change log, Nougat update for Galaxy On Nxt brings new software UX called 'Samsung Experience', improved notifications and quick settings button, multi-window mode, improvements to AOD and app installation times, along with the latest security patch. It also adds Dual Messenger function, that will allow users to setup two separate accounts for the same social networking or instant messaging apps on the device. 

To recap the specs, the Galaxy On Nxt features 5.5-inch Full HD display, Exynos 7870 processor, 3GB RAM, 13MP/8MP rear & front camera, dual-SIM slot, 4G VoLTE, fingerprint scanner and 3300mAh battery. It comes in two storage variants: 32GB and 64GB and the price starts at around Rs. 15,000.

Samsung India has been on a roll for the past few weeks when it comes to software update. It rolled out Nougat update to its mid-range Galaxy J (Galaxy J7 2016, Galaxy J7 Prime) and Galaxy A (Galaxy A9 Pro, Galaxy A5 2017, Galaxy A7 2017) line.

Android 7.1.1 Nougat now rolling out to YU Yureka Black


The YU Yureka Black was launched back in June running Android Marshmallow. And now YU keeping its promise has released Android Nougat for the phone.

The Android Nougat version 7.1.1 is seeding to the Yureka Black, and along with native Nougat features, and bug fixes, the update brings July Android security patch. Some of the notable native Nougat features include multi-window support to let you run two apps side by side, Notification enhancements, new emojis, rounded icons, data saver, background optimizations, and app shortcuts.

Android 7.1.1 for Yureka Black is rolling out over-the-air and if you've not been notified about the update yet, go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update, and hit the download the update and install button.

To recap the specs, the Yureka Black comes with 5-inch Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, octa-core Snapdragon 430 chip, 4GB RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 13MP Sony IMX258 rear camera (w/ dual-LED flash), 8MP front shooter with selfie flash, fingerprint scanner, 4G with VoLTE, dual-SIM slots, and 3000mAh battery. It carries a price tag of Rs. 8,999.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016) receiving Android Nougat in India


Samsung is updating two of its Galaxy A series smartphone to the latest Android flavor. The Galaxy A5 (2016) and Galaxy A7 (2016) has started receiving Android Nougat update in India. The Nougat roll out for A5 2016 started with Russia.

With Nougat update, the Galaxy A5 (2016) and Galaxy A7 (2016) gets the new user interface that runs on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. It also brings improvements to notifications, more customisable quick settings, improved settings menu, multi-window mode, Samsung Pass, performance mode to extend battery life and enhancements to the system upgrade and app installation process.

The update weighs around 970MB and is being rolled out OTA (over-the-air). If you've not been notified about the update go to  Settings » About Device menu to check manually

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, Tablet K1 is now getting Android Nougat


NVIDIA is rolling out Android Nougat based Shield Experience Upgrade 5.0 to the original SHIELD tablet and the SHIELD tablet K1.

The Nougat update brings new multi-tasking features like split screen to run two apps side by side, and Quick Switch to switch back to the last opened app by double tapping Overview button. Support for the new controller, which was introduced with the new SHIELD Android TV is now added to the SHIELD tablets with Nougat.

It also adds new emojis, bundled notifications and quick reply, better notification management, Unicode 9 emojis, customizable Quick Settings tiles and more.

Apart from the aforementioned features the update brings improved power consumption,  usability improvements and system enhancements and bug fixes. It also updates the Android Security patch level to December 1, 2016.

Android Nougat is available for all SHIELD Tablets starting today, first for a small percentage of users, followed by a wider roll out in the coming days. The LTE modeils will get Nougat in the next few weeks, after it gets carrier approval.

Android Nougat for ZTE Axon 7 brings Daydream VR platform support


ZTE's Axon 7 flagship is being updated to Android Nougat, and the update brings with it support for Google Daydream compatibility. This means you can now use the Axon 7 smartphone with Google's Daydream VR headset and play games or watch movies.

Apart from ZTE Axon 7 Google's Daydream VR platform is compatible with  Pixel, Pixel XL, Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force, Huawei Mate 9 Pro and Asus' ZenFone AR. Axon 7 is the most affordable Daydream VR enabled smartphone of the lot.

The Nougat update for Axon 7 will also add new features like multi-window support, giving users the ability to run apps side by side, new emoji s, customizable quick settings tiles and more, along with Google's December security patch. The update is currently rolling out in the US.

To refresh, Axon 7 is ZTE's premium flagship offering, which was launched back in May last year, boasting top-of-the line specs like 5.5-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB storage, 20MP f/1.8 PDAF OIS rear camera, 8MP front camera, hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE, USB Type-C, NFC, fingerprint scanner, Dolby Atmos and 3250mAh battery. The Axon 7 is yet to land in India.

Android 7.0 Nougat update starts hitting Asus ZenFone 3


The Asus ZenFone 3 was launched back in May 2016 and shipped with Android Marshmallow. Now the company has rolled out Android Nougat for the device. 

Currently the update is out in Philippines for the 5.2-inch ZenFone 3 (ZE520KL) and 5.5-inch ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) models. Unfortunately there are no details when it will be available for other part of the world.

With Android Nougat, ZenFone 3 will get new features like multi-windows support, new emojis, much better power management system of Doze, more streamlined notifications and settings window and more. Asus has also made slight tweaks in its ZenUI.

To recap the specs, the ZenFone 3 features octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 4G LTE support, USB Type-C and microSD card & dual-SIM slots. The ZE520KL model comes with 5.2-inch Full HD display, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and 2650mAh battery, while the ZE552KL model has a bigger 5.5-inch Full HD display, 4G RAM, 64GB storage and 3000mAh battery.

In India the ZenFone 3 (ZE520KL) is priced at Rs. 21,999 and the ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) costs Rs. 27,999.

Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus start receiving Android Nougat


Last month Motorola rolled out Android Nougat to its flagship Moto Z smartphone. Now, the Lenovo owned company is reportedly pushing Nougat to Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus in India.

Earlier the phones had received Nougat, but that turned out to be soak test. But now, a Moto G series owner has received  NPJ25.93-11 update notification for OTA carrying Nougat, and also confirmed with Motorola's live chat to ensure it was an actual update and not a soak test. The customer support representative also confirmed that it was an official roll out, which was being pushed batch-wise. So, it appears that the update is rolling out to a small number of Moto G4/G4 Plus devices.

Android Nougat for Moto G4/Moto G4 Plus brings features like Multi-window support, notification enhancements, data saver, direct boot, background optimization and more. The update also includes security patch for November 1 and Moto-related software features: a new Moto action called "Swipe to Shrink the Screen"  and "Fingerprint Sensor for Screen Lock" (Moto G4 Plus only).

OnePlus 3 gets Android 7.0 Nougat in open beta


Keeping its promise OnePlus has released Android Nougat to OnePlus 3 in the form of beta. The Android Nougat based OxygenOS Open Beta 8 is available for download from the OnePlus website, and weighs in at 1.3GB in size. Just like previous beta builds, OnePlus 3 users will have to manually download and flash the update as no OTA update will be provided.

The Android Nougat beta for OnePlus 3 adds features like new notification and setting menu design, multi-windows support and direct replies from notification. OnePlus has added some features of its own like improved shelf customization. status bar icon and quick launch support for third-party apps. It also includes December 1 Android security patch as well.

OnePlus also warns that the beta build will include bugs and performance issue. Also Android Pay may not work correctly. Moreover once upgraded to Nougat, you will not be able to directly downgrade back to Marshmallow builds. So you'll have to contact customer support to flash back to Marshmallow.

  • After upgrading to Android N, you will not be able to directly downgrade back to M builds. Our customer service team has a special build of Android M that will allow you to downgrade, but this will format your device. If you'd like to flash back to M, please contact Customer Support.
OnePlus has already confirmed that final and stable Nougat build will be available for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users by end of this month.

Android Nougat now rolling out to Sony Xperia X Performance


After LG and HTC, its Sony's turn to release Android Nougat to its flagship devices. Earlier this month Sony started testing Nougat for Xperia Performance via Xperia Beta Program. Now it has rolled out the stable Nougat update to Xperia X Performance.

The Android Nougat update with build number 39.2.A.0.327 is currently rolling out over-the-air to Xperia X Performance (F8131) and Xperia X Performance Dual (F8132) in select regions such as Australia, Latin America and Russia.

The update brings Android Nougat features like split screen, new notification panel buttons, improved battery life with the Stamina mode and more. Sony has made a couple of changes to the camera software by adding manual shutter speed and ISO controls at full 23MP resolution. The update also brings STAMINA mode and include bug fixes, along with latest Android security patch.

After Xperia X Performance, Sony Xperia smartphones next in line to receive an official Nougat update are Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia X, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet. Some of these devices will get Nougat in 2017.

HTC 10 unlocked variants starts receiving Android 7.0 Nougat


HTC's VP of Product Management, Mo Versi has announced that all unlocked version of HTC 10 will receive Android 7.0 Nougat from November 25, Friday.

Versi did not reveal whether the update will roll out to a particular region or globally, but HTC on its official Twitter handle mentioned that Nougat is coming soon to unlocked HTC 10 in the U.S, and it is working hard to bring the update to other regions.

This indicates that U.S unlocked variant of HTC 10 will receive the Nougat update first, followed by other region. As for carrier models (U.S), the Nougat update will be available early next year.

With the announcement HTC becomes the third company after Lenovo/Moto and LG to bring Nougat to its flagship smartphone. Earlier this month Motorola's Moto Z/ Z Force and LG's G5 started receiving Nougat update. Android 7.0 Noygat bring night mode for reading, multi-windows mode to work on two separate apps simultaneously and improved Doze mode for better battery management.

The next HTC phones in line to get Android Nougat will be One M9 and One A9 early next year. We can expect HTC to add more devices to the Nougat compatibility list in 2017. Recently HTC launched U.S exclusive Bolt (for carrier Sprint) and its global variant 10 evo, which ships with Android 7.0 Nougat.

LG starts rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update to the G5


LG has announced that they have started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat for the LG G5. The roll out will start in LG's home market of South Korea, followed by Americas, Asia and other market in the weeks to come.

LG claims that it is the first company to roll out Nougat to an existing smartphone running Android Marshmallow. The LG V20 that was launched last month was also the first smartphone to ship with Android Nougat.

LG says that Android Nougat will offer "a range of new features designed to enhance the user experience and deliver more speed and convenience to G5 owners". These include in-app searching, multi-window mode (switch between with double tap or run two apps sided by side),  personalized settings and smarter notifications.

Users will receive notifications on their G5 when the Android Nougat update is available.

Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview coming late October, final release expected in December


The Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the first phones to ship with Android 7.1 Nougat and now Google has provided details of Android 7.1 Nougat availability for Nexus and other devices.

The search-giant has announced that Nougat's first maintenance update release, Android 7.1 will be available as a developer preview later this month to Pixel C tablet and select Nexus devices. Google says that Android 7.1 is an incremental update and builds on the strengths of Android 7.0, but add new features like Daydream support, A/B system update, app shortcut API for default launched and ability to use image keyboards.

What's in Android 7.1 Nougat
  • App shortcuts API — lets developers surface key actions directly in the launcher and take users deep into your app instantly. Can create up to 5 shortcuts, either statically or dynamically.
  • Circular app icons support — lets developers provide rounded icon resources that match the look of Pixel and other launchers.
  • Enhanced live wallpaper metadata — lets developers provide metadata about live wallpapers to any picker displaying the wallpapers as a preview. Show existing metadata such as label, description, and author, as well as a new context URL and title to link to more information.
  • Image keyboard support — expands the types of content that users can enter from their keyboards, letting them express themselves through custom stickers, animated gifs, and more. Apps can tell the keyboard what types of content they accept, and keyboards can deliver all of the images and other content that they offer to the user. For broad compatibility, this API will also be available in the support library.
  • Storage manager Intent — lets an app take the user directly to a new Settings screen to clear unused files and free up storage space on the device.
  • APIs to support multi-endpoint calling and new telephony configuration options.
  • Optimizations and bug fixes and new APIs (API level 25)
The Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview will be released only for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel towards the end of the month. Other device will be added to the preview program as it progresses. Interested users can join Android Beta Program and get the 7.1 Nougat Preview via OTA.

The final release will be available in early December and will include all devices such as Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and select Android One device, that were included in the wider Nougat roll out.

As for non-Google devices, the company said that it is working closely with deice makers to get them ready for Android 7.1. As of now it is not clear if OEMs will skip Android 7.0 for Android 7.1.

Android One phones start getting Android 7.0 Nougat


Last month, Google rolled out Android 7.0 Nougat to Nexus devices and Pixel C tablet. Now Google's affordable Android One devices have started getting the Nougat update starting with Cherry Mobile G1 in Philippines.

The Android Nougat update for Cherry Mobile G1 is being rolled out OTA and the download package size if about 750MB. The update brings easier multitasking with multi-windows, notification enhancements, new emoji, improved battery life, direct boot and more. It also includes Android security patch for August 2016 as well.

Other Android One devices worldwide including India are also expected to get the Nougat update soon.

Android N is officially named Nougat


After months of calling the next Android release as Android N, Google has finally revealed that Android N will be called Android Nougat. The company also took the wraps off its new statue design for Android Nougat, which features a green Android Mascot standing on top of three bars of chewy confection.

For those unaware, Nougat is is a family of confections made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites, and sometimes chopped candied fruit. Originally from Italy, the sweet is said to have been created in 15th century. 

Android Nougat was initially announced in March and brings re-designed notification panel and navigation button, improved Doze that debut with Marshmallow, split-screen multi-tasking and tones of other improvements. It also has Daydream, Google's new VR platform baked, though, the support will be limited to Daydream-ready phones running Android N.

Android Nougat will release sometime in Q3 2016.
