Reliance Jio will offer additional 20GB data to TCL/Alcatel users


Reliance Jio is partnering with TCL/Alcatel, to offer owners of Alcatel devices additional 4G data. Under the offer, Alcatel/TCL phone users will get additional 20GB of 4G data on recharges made above Rs. 309. 

The benefits can be availed for a maximum recharge of Rs. 309 and above per month for four months. And each recharge will give you 5GB of extra data for a total of 20GB (5GB x 4 months = 20GB).

The offer is available for select Alcatel and TCL devices including Pixi 4 (5), Pixi 4 (6), A3 (10), Pixi 4 (7) 4G, U5HD, A5 LED, A7, TCL 560, TCL 562 + VR, A3 (10), Pixi 4 (7) 4G.

To activate the offer customer should open the MyJioApp and go to the 'My Vouchers' section, and click 'View Voucher' > 'Recharge' > 'Recharge my number'. And then 'Confirm Recharge', and if it is successful, users will be notified about the recharge. The additional data voucher will then be shown under the 'My Plans' section.

Previously Jio teamed up with Intex, Gionee, Xiaomi, Asus, Lenovo, Oppo to offer additional data to its users.

TCL Movetime smartwatch with heart rate sensor launched in India


TCL has launched a new smartwatch in India with fitness tracking called Movetime. It comes with heart rate monitor, and can track fitness activities like steps taken, distance covered, sleep monitoring and sport activity tracking. 

The Movetime sports a round 1.39-inch AMOLED touch display, and offers gesture controls that lets you take a photo or play music by twisting your wrist. When paired with compatible smartphone (Android & iOS), the smartwatch offers notifications for calls, messages, social media, calendar and more. 

It supports WiFi and Bluetooth for connectivity, weighs 50g and comes with a range of high-quality leather straps. Unfortunately the battery backup is not known.

The TCL Movetime has been priced at Rs. 9,999 and is now exclusively available on Amazon India.

BlackBerry Mercury with physical QWERTY to launch on February 25


Following months of speculations, TCL officially confirmed the existence of a new BlackBerry smartphone with QWERTY keyboard codenamed Mercury at CES 2017 without revealing the real name, price and availability. However the company revealed that the device will launch at MWC.

Now TCL has announced that BlackBerry Mercury will make its official debut on February 25, two days before MWC kicks off.

The BlackBerry Mercury will be the last smartphone designed and engineered in-house, but it is manufactured by TCL. The confirmed features of BlackBerry Mercury include unibody metal design, dimpled soft touch back, Android 7.0 Nougat, curved glass display, USB Type-C port, and fingerprint sensor embedded inside the space bar of the QWERTY keyboard.

As for the other specs, BlackBerry Mercury will reportedly feature 4.5-inch display carring 1080 x 1620px resolution, octa-core Snapdragon 625 chip, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 18MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and 3400mAh battery.

We should know everything including the final product, marketing name, specifications, pricing and availability by the end of next month.

BlackBerry Mercury QWERTY Android phone to launch at MWC 2017


TCL, the company that has exclusive rights to sell and market BlackBerry devices has announced the BlackBerry Mercury at CES 2017. Unfortunately the specs, price and availability details were not revealed. However TCL did give a sneak peak of the phone and a couple of websites (Android Central) got a chance to get hands-on with the BlackBerry Mercury.

The BlackBerry Mercury brings back the iconic QWERTY keyboard, reminiscent of BlackBerry's classis design, and includes capacitive gesture functionality. The fingerprint sensor is baked in it Space bar, which is first for smartphones. It also features a headphone jack, USB Type-C port, two speaker grilles and boots Android Nougat out of the box.



There is no word on specs, but Mercury is expected to come with 4.5-inch display, Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM,  32GB internal storage, 18MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and 3400mAh battery.

Also Note that Mercury is the code-name of the phone and the official name is not known. TCL says that it will reveal more information about BlackBerry Mercury at MWC 2017 which kicks off February 27.

TCL will unveil new BlackBerry smartphones at CES 2017


BlackBerry is not making smartphones anymore, but that does not mean it has bowed out of smartphone market. Instead the former Canadian smartphone giant has tied up with TCL to sell BlackBerry branded Android smartphone.

Now TCL has announced that it will launch new BlackBerry branded devices at CES 2017, which will be held between January 5 and January 8, 2017 in Las Vegas. 

According to TCL it will "unveil an evolutionary first in the mobile industry, which will include the addition of the new BlackBerry brand of smartphones, complimenting the company's current portfolio". The company further said that "We’ll unveil more news at CES around our plans, showcasing the legacy of the BlackBerry smartphone brand, while also giving a glimpse into what new BlackBerry smartphones will offer as part of our bold new brand portfolio within TCT. These are just the building blocks of our new growth strategy, with additional announcements to come in 2017." 

TCL has already launched two BlackBerry branded smartphones, the mid-range DTEK 50 and the flagship DTEK 60, which are rebranded version of Alcatel Idol 4 and Idol 4s. Both were full touch screen smartphones.

However, there are no details regarding the new devices, but previously BlackBerry had confirmed that it is working on a smartphone which sports the company's iconic QWERTY keyboard, similar to BlackBerry Classic or BlackBerry Passport. Based on rumors and leaks so far, the smartphone code-named Mercury will reportedly feature 4.5-inch Full HD display with 3:2 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage, 18MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, fingerprint scanner, 3400mAh battery and Android Nougat.

TCL will make and sell BlackBerry-branded smartphones from now on


BlackBerry back in September announced that it would stop manufacturing smartphones, instead rely on third-party manufacturers to make its phones. BlackBerry will provide its brand name and software for the same.

The Canadian company has already launched two Android phones called DTEK50 and DTEK60 in partnership with China's TCL. Now BlackBerry has officially announced that it has signed a deal with TCL to give it exclusive rights to make and sell BlackBerry-branded smartphone globally. TCL also makes Alcatel-branded mobile devices.

Under the deal, TCL will design, manufacture, sell and provide customer support for upcoming BlackBerry-branded phones, while BlackBerry on the other hand will be controlling the software and developing security solutions for these phones.

TCL will manufacture and sell BlackBerry smartphones in all regions except India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Indonesia, which are BlackBerry's largest smartphone markets. 

For Indonesia market, BlackBerry has signed a similar deal with BB Merah Putih in September to make and sell BlackBerry-branded phones in that country, with BlackBerry's Android software and applications. BlackBerry is also working on a deal with an Indian company to bring BlackBerry phones to the country, but not much is known about this.

TCL 580 mid-range 5-inch smartphone with 3GB RAM announced


In addition to TCL 950, TCL also announced a mid-range smartphone called TCL 580. It runs Android Marshmallow and has a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button.

The TCL 580 has 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display, octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor w/ Mali T860 GPU, 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage, which can be increased via microSD card.

It sports 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and PDAF. Front facing camera is 5-megapixel. For connectivity, there's hybrid dual SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. It is backed by 2460mAh battery.

The TCL 580 is priced at CNY 1399 ($209 | Rs. 14,000) and will go on sale in China Starting October 10.

TCL 950 with Snapdragon 820 SoC, 21MP camera announced


China based TCL, Alcatel's parent company has announced a new smartphone called TCL 950. The handset is a flagship device with high-end specs, and is expected to be re-branded as BlackBerry DTEK60 for international market.

The TCL 950 features 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor processor backed by Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB RAM. On-board storage is 64GB, which can be expanded via microSD card.

It gets 21MP Sony IMX230 rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and 4K video recording. On the front there's 8MP 84-degree wide-angle camera for selfies.

Connectivity duties are handled by hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE w/ VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and USB Type-C. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is fueled by 3000mAh battery, which supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.

The handset also boasts fingerprint scanner, ARM TrustZone technology, dual speakers and dual NXP Smart PA amplifier chips.

The TCL 950 is priced at CNY 3299 ($494 | Rs. 33, 000) and will be available in its home market, soon in Silver and Gold hues. 

A day ago, BlackBerry announced that it will stop manufacturing smartphones and instead outsource it to partners. The company's upcoming DTEK60 will reportedly be a re-branded TCL 950, but will have QHD resolution instead of FHD (1080p).

TCL launches 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV in India at Rs. 48,990


China's TCL entered India's television market space in July this year, with the launch of four TVs starting at Rs. 13,990. Now the company has launched L55P1US, its latest P1 series 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV in the country.

TCL's new TV runs Android OS, so you'll be able to access the Play Store and download apps. It comes pre-loaded with media apps like GoLive and TCL nScreen, which lets you use your smartphone or tablet as a remote control for the TV.

The TCL L55P1US has 55-inch display with 178-degree viewing angle, 4000:1 contrast ration and 16:9 aspect ratio. The TV features 1.5GHz quad-core Cortex A53 processor, 1.5GB RAM and 8GB inbuilt storage. It includes Bluetooth, WiFi, Ethernet, 2 x USB ports, 3 x HDMI ports.

Other features are Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby 5.1 audio with surround sound speakers, Creative Pro 4K UHD Upscaling Engine (to enhance any HD content to near 4K quality), Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation and sports mode for an optimized and enhanced viewing experience.

The TCL L55P1US 55-inch Ultra HD Smart LED TV has been priced at Rs 48,990, and will be available exclusively on Amazon India.

TCL launches four LED TVs in India starting at Rs. 13,990


China's TCL yesterday launched the TCL 562 smartphone in India at Rs. 10,999. In addition, the China based electronics company forayed into the country's TV market space with the launch of four TVs – 43-inch P1 Flat 4K Ultra HD smart TV, 48-inch P1 Curved Full HD Smart TV, 32-inch D2900 HD Ready TV and 40-inch D2900 Full HD TV, with prices starting at Rs. 13,990.

The TCL D2900 32-inch and 40-inch LED TVs are priced at Rs. 13,990 and Rs. 20,990 respectively. They come with ASIC processor, full HD HDMI video formats, 2 x USB ports, 2 x HDMI port, Blue color control, Contrast level adjustment and Dolby surround sound.

The P1 series comes pre-loaded with TCL nScreen app, that lets you use your smartphone or tablet as a remote control for the TVs. They include Dolby digital sound, USB ports, Smart Volume feature and more.

The 48-inch TCL P1 Curved Full HD Smart TV is priced at Rs. 37,900 and features sleek design, screen mirroring, built-in WiFi, WiFi direct and an app store, which offers video-on-demand, to social, gaming, and music. The 43-inch P1 Flat 4K Ultra HD Smart is the high-end of the lot, priced at Rs. 31,900 and runs Android, so it should be able to run several apps available in Play Store.

The newly launch TCL TVs will be available for purchase exclusively on Amazon India.

TCL 562 with 5.5-inch display, Helio P10 SoC launched in India for Rs. 10,999


Chinese global consumer electronics brand TCL launched an upgraded model of the budget TCL 560 dubbed TCL 562 in India. The phone sports polycarbonate body w/ metallic diamond cut frame and has a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button, instead of iris scanner on the TCL 560.

The TCL 562 features 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display and is powered by octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor coupled with Mali T860 GPU and 3GB RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card.

There's 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, HDR and 5-megapixel front camera, also accompanied by dual-LED flash. For connectivity, it offers dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS, and is fitted with 2960mAh battery, which is rated to deliver up to 12 hours of talk time and up to 500 hours of standby time. It runs Android Marshmallow and has Hi-Fi audio.

The TCL 562 is priced at Rs. 10,999 and will be exclusively available on Amazon India starting August 3. TCL has teamed up with Idea Cellular to offer Idea customers 1GB mobile data free, per month for three months.

TCL 560 with iris scanner, Android Marshmallow launched in India for Rs. 7,999


China based smartphone makerTCL has launched the TCL 560 smartphone in India.The unique feature of the handset is its iris scanner, which is called EyeVerify that lets you unlock the device by scanning the eyes using the front camera. The phone supports 4G LTE connectivity along with VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support and runs Android Marshmallow.

The TCL 560 comes with 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS full lamination display and is powered by 1.1GHz quad-core Snapdragon 210 (MSM8909) processor backed by Adreno 304 GPU and 2GB RAM. On-board storage is 16GB, which can be further increased via microSD card (up to 32GB).

For photography, there's 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and 5-megapixel 84.4-degree wide angle front facing camera with LED flash, to capture better selfies in low light conditions. Apart from 4G LTE, the dual-SIM phone supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity. It is fueled by 2500mAh battery.

Priced at Rs. 7,999, the the TCL 560 comes in Dark Grey and Metallic Gold colors, and will be available from Amazon India starting today midnight.

TCL Play 2, Play 2C with fingerprint sensor, 4G LTE announced


Chinese electronics company TCL has introduced Play 2 and Play 2C budget 4G smartphone in its home country. Both of them have fingerprint sensor at the back that lets you unclock the device in just 0.5 seconds. They are also equipped with IR sensor to control home appliances.

The TCL Play 2 features 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display and is powered by 1.5GHz octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 617 processor with Adreno 405 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, further expandable via microSD card. For imaging, it sports 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5P Lens, f/2.0 aperture and can record 1080p videos. On the front there is 5-megapixel shooter with 85-degree wide angle lens. It is fueled by 2500mAh battery.

The TCL Play 2C also features a 5-inch HD IPS display, but is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor aided by Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB RAM. On-board storage capacity is 16GB, which can be expanded via microSD card. It sports 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5P lens, f/2.0 aperture, 77-wide angle lens, and can record 1080p videos as well. For clicking selfies you get a 8-megapixel front shooter with LED flash, 4P lens, f/2.2 aperture and 86-degree wide-angle lens. It gets juice to run from a 2000mAh battery.

Both support dual SIM, 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity. They run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.

The TCL Play 2 is priced at CNY 899 ($140 | Rs. 9,360) and will be available in China late December. The TCL Play 2C costs $699 ($110 | Rs. 7,276) and will be available for order in China from December 10 and will go on sale staring December 18.

TCL Pride T500L with Iris scanner launched in India for Rs. 10,499


Chinese brand TCL has launched the Pride T500L smartphone in India. The main highlight is the Iris (retina) scanner, which is a Eyeprint identification method for password-free eye-based biometric unlocking solution. It works by imaging unique vein patterns in the human eye using the smartphone's front facing camera to unlock the device. 

The TCL Pride T500L features 5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display and is equipped with Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, further aided by Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB RAM. On-board storage capacity is 16GB, further expandable via microSD card up to 32GB.  

For photography, it sports 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, Sony Exmor RS sensor, 5P lens and f/2.2 aperture. On the front sits a 8-megapixel shooter with LED flash, f.2,2 aperture and 88-degree wide-angle lens. 

It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, has dual SIM slots and supports 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity. Under the hood is a 3050mAh battery.

The TCL Pride T500L is priced at Rs. 10,499 and is available exclusively from Snapdeal. It comes in White and Black colors.
