Nextbit, the maker of kickstarter-backed cloud-first Robin smartphone, that was acquired by Razer earlier this year, has announced that it has officially shut down customer support for its only smartphone, Robin.
This means the company will no longer offer technical support over phone or chat and support warranty claims. The company has already stopped selling the Robin smartphone.
"Rebels, effective August 1, 2017, we’ve shut down support for Robin. You won’t be able to reach us by phone or chat anymore, but any outstanding RMA tickets will be handled via email"
That said, if your Robin smartphone runs into any trouble, Nextbit is suggesting Robin users to visit the self-help section at help.nextbit.com, or get help from other Robin users in its forum.
Although Nextbit is shutting down customer support for Robin, the company has again promised that the Robin will get software updates as well as security patches until February 2018. It's worth mentioning that the Robin shipped with Android Marshmallow, however, the phone's software is up to date now running Android 7.1.1.
The Robin was launched in early 2016 and was a mid-range smartphone. Its main highlight was its 100GB of cloud storage offering, so that users backup least used apps, photos, videos to the cloud when connected to WiFi and free up space in the smartphone.
Only a handful of devices runs the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat including Google Nexus & Pixel devices (select), ZTE Axon 7, OnePlus 3 & 3T, Nokia 6, Moto X Play and Moto Z Play. Now joining the list is Nextbit Robin.
The Robin received Android Nougat back in March this year, and is now being updated to Android 7.1.1. The latest build 88 for Robin is available globally.
The update will bring Android 7.1.1 goodies, bug fixes, optimizations and stability improvements. It includes April 1, 2017 Android security patch. The update weighs around 560MB in size and the factory images for the update, can be downloaded by hitting the source link below.
Nextbit was acquired by Razer back in January this year, and discontinued the production of Robin. Although Robin is not being sold anymore, Nextbit has promised software updates and security updates through February, 2018. This is most likely to be the last major update for the Robin, and further releases will be security updates.

Nextbit started beta testing Android Nougat on the cloud-first Robin smartphone back in November 2016. Now the final version of Nougat has started rolling out to Robin globally.
The Android Nougat with build "Robin_Nougat_88" is around 1.5GB in size, and is rolling out gradually, which means it will take a while before it reaches all units.
The update brings the usual Nougat goodies like multi-windows support, improved notification bar, system enhancement and several bug fixes. It also includes January 5, 2017 Android Security Patch.
Earlier this year Razer acquired Nextbit, and sales of Robin smartphones were halted. However, Nextbit promised that it will continue to push software and security updates through February 2018.

Nextbit, the makers of the cloud-first Robin smartphone has announced that, the company has been acquired by gaming laptops and PC accessories manufacturer Razer.
Nextbit will be operating as an independent division inside Razer, under its own management, and will focus on bringing unique mobile design and experiences. Nextbit and Razer closed the acquisition earlier this month, but the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The company has also announced that it has halted sales of the Robin smartphones and all accessories through its official channels. However, Nextbit will continue to offer support including software updates and security updates through February, 2018, and the company will fulfill warranties for six more months. Nextbit also confirmed that the Robin 2 is not coming out anytime soon.
To refresh, Nextbit is a San-Francisco based company founded by former members of Google's Android team, along with former design head at HTC in 2015. The first smartphone Robin was launched via a Kickstarter campaign, in September 2015, which turned to be successful, and later the phone reached many markets including India. The main highlight of Robin was that, it offered 100GB of cloud storage, so that users backup least used apps, photos, videos to the cloud and free up space in the smartphone.
With the acquisition, Razer, which until now focused on making gaming PCs and accessories, will be looking to make smartphones in the near future.
