Motorola Moto E (2015) 4G gets Android Marshmallow update in India


Motorola has started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Moto E 4G 2015 in  India. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update v 24.51.39 for Moto E 4G 2015 weighs in at 453.9MB and is being rolled out over-the-Air. The roll out is in phases so it will take some time to hit your Moto device.

Along with Android 6.0 Marshmallow features including Google Now On Tap, app permissions, Doze mode and more, the update also includes Android security update for January 2016.

The Moto E 4G 2015 is Motorola's cheapest smartphone and was launched in April last year in the country running Android 5.0 Lollipop and received Android 5.1 Lollipop update later. 

To recall the Moto X Play, Moto G 2015 and Moto G Turbo edition has already received the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

Samsung announce global roll out of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Galaxy S6, S6 edge


Samsung has announced that it has started pushing Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to Galaxy S6 and S6 edge globally, with other Galaxy smartphones to soon follow. Samsung also mentioned that it will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market.

The update bring new features including Now on Tap, App permissions, Web Experience, Doze, Applinks and more for both the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. 

The software update coming to Galaxy Edge appears to be a major update that includes enhanced edge screen and new edge screen functions. After the update, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge users will get an option to widen the edge panel to 550 pixels for viewing more content. You will now be able to customize up to nine panels including the 'People edge' and 'Apps edge' panels.

People edge will let you manage your favorite contacts in a single easy-to-access area. Also the contact names are added below the photo icons for a more initiative experience. App edge, a panel that shows most frequently used apps, will no lets users add ten apps instead of five and also let you add folders as well.

The new Tasks edge panel shows often used apps and tasks including creating an event in S planner, setting an alarm, composing text message and more. There is also new Quick Tools, which includes ruler, compass, and flashlight, and a shortcut to the settings menu for easier navigation. You can now access all the panels easily by customizing the edge handle- the fixed tab that opens the edge panel.


As this a global roll out, not every Galaxy S6 and S6 edge phones will receive the update immediately, so it will take some time before the Android Marshmallow hits your device. When the update is available you'll be notified, if not, you can even check for the update manually via settings menu.

Moto G (3rd gen) receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in U.S and Canada


Motorola has started pushing out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the 3rd gen Moto G (unlocked variant XT1540). The update is rolling out over-the-air in the U.S and Canada currently only for unlocked and SIM-free (XT1540) variant, with more regions expected to follow shortly.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update v24.11.25 for the 3rd gen Moto G measures 2GB in size and brings all the features included in Android Marshmallow including revamped app permissions, Google Now on Tap feature, Android Pay mobile payment system, and new fingerprint APIs for developers among others. The update also includes the Android security update for December.

The 3rd gen Moto G which was launched in India in July is considered to be one of the best value-for-the money smartphone of 2015. The specs include 5-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 410 SoC with Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB / 2GB RAM, 8GB / 16GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 4G LTE support and 2740mAh battery.

The Moto X Style, Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X Play and Moto X 2nd gen have already started receiving Marshmallow update in some regions. Motorola also announced that it will roll out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to 2nd gen Moto E, but only in select regions including Canada, Latin America, Europe and Asia (excluding China). No time-frame was mentioned.

Asus lists devices that will get Marshmallow update


Asus has outed the list of its devices that are set to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. The company in their ZenTalkforum confirmed that it is planning to roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the PadFone S, ZenFone 2 (ZE550ML/ZE551ML), ZenFone 2 Deluxe / Special Edition (ZE551ML), ZenFone 2 Laser (all models - ZE500KG/ZE500KL/ZE550KL/ZE600KL/ZE601KL), and ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL). Unfortunately, Asus as of now has not confirmed the roll out timing , but it says it will be announced soon.

Marshmallow running on 0.3% of Android devices, Lollipop passes 25%


Andoird 6.0 Marshmallow has made its first appearance on the Android Distribution chart. The latest Android OS that started its limited rollout to Nexus devices one month ago, is now present on 0.3 percent of devices. The OS also comes pre-installed on the new Nexus devices- Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, and the HTC One A9.

Lollipop continues to soar as more smartphone makers are updating their devices. The Android 5.x Lollipop has a total share of 25.6 percent, up by 2.1 percent, as compared to 23.5 percent in October. Android 4.4 KitKat is now present on 37.8 percent of the device, dropping 1.1 percent from last month. 

Android Jelly Bean ranging from Android 4.1 to Android 4.3 powers 29 percent of the devices down from 30.2 percent, while Ice Cream Sandwhich is present on 3.3 percent of devices down from 3.4. Meanwhile, Gingerbread and Froyo have remained unchanged on 3.8 percent and 0.2 percent since October.

The data are collected from Google Play visitors during a seven-day period ending on November 2.

Android One handsets start receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow


Google started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Nexus devices and now its time for the Android One devices.

As per reports Android One devices are getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update in India. The Android One devices that are receiving the update include Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream UNO Mi-498 and Karbonn Sparkle V. Unfortunately there are no details about the update for Lava Pixel V1 and about Android One handsets of other markets.

The update size is 338.1 for all Android One smartphones which share the same ROM. The update is said to bring the device to build number MRA58M.

Android One smartphones are entry-level phones loaded with Stock Android with just enough features to create value for emerging markets. The hardware is built by smartphone manufacturer using designs and standards provided by Google, which in turn does the marketing of these devices. Sony outs list of Xperia devices that will get Android Marshmallow


Sony has outed list of Xperia devices that will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Unfortunately, there is no mention of Xperia and Xperia Z1 range in the list, but Sony says that it has been working hard to bring the major update to as many Xperia devices as possible, so we can expect more devices to be added to the list in the future.

Sony did not reveal the exact time-frame for the rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the said devices. The update will come with Sony's own features and functionality and improvements. Sony also promised to share more details on the software upgrade soon.

As usual the update will roll out in a phased process and timing and availability will vary by carriers and countries.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is already available for Nexus devices, plus HTC and Motorola has already confirmed the devices to get the latest Android update.

Google releases Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images for Nexus devices, OTA roll out starts today


Google has released Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images (build MRA58K) for Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player.

You can download the factory images for the said devices from Google Developers website. These factory images would require you to flash your device (manually install Android 6.0).

However, if you're not comfortable with manual installation, Google has also begun pushing over-the-air (OTA) updates to the said Nexus devices. If the OTA update is available for your devices you will receive notification, if not, you can manually check for the update by going to settings page.

Android M is now officially known as 6.0 Marshmallow


Drums Rolling.....Google has made it official, the next iteration of Android, Android M is now officially called Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Google also installed the Green Marshmallow mascot near the Android headquarter building in California.

Google has a tradition of naming its OS after a dessert in alphabetical order that started with version 1.5 named Cuppycake, followed by Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb (for tablets only), Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat and Lollipop.

Google introduced Android M at its I/O 2015 in May and touted it as the most powerful Android release yet. It concentrated on six major things, App permission, Web experience, App Links, Mobile Payment, Fingerprint support and Power & Charging. There will also be native support for USB Type-C.

In addition, the final M preview and the final Android 6.0 Marshmallow SDK have been released and are ready to download. The final M preview will roll out over-the-air (OTA) if you're device is running the previous version of Android M preview. Or you can grab the factory image from the Android developer site which is available for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. The final Android 6.0 SDK can be downloaded via SDK Manager. Devs can now upload their Android 6.0 compatible apps to the Play Store.
 
"The preview images are near final but they are not intended for consumer use," Google said in its blog post

The final version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be rolled out later this fall. In addition, Google is said to be working on two new Nexus smartphone, one from Huawei, the other from LG. Both of them are likely to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow, when launched later this year.
