Flipkart tightens return policy; stops refund on computer, camera, mobile accessories and more

In a bid to minimize operational costs, Flipkart has tightened its return and exchange policy across several categories. The online marketplace will no longer offer refunds on products like  mobile accessories, personal care appliances, computer and camera accessories, office equipment, wearables and games.

The return policy for these categories now reads "Refunds are not offered. All sales are final".

In the case of a defect, Flipkart's new return policy says "If a defect is determined within the 10-day period following delivery, a replacement of the same model will be provided at no additional cost. Only in cases where the replacement product is not in stock or has been permanently discontinued, a refund for the entire product or part(s) of the product will be provided by the seller."

However, Flipkart will continue with the 30-days return/exchange window for products like clothing, footwear and eyewear.

Flipkart's new return and exchange policy has been welcomed by their sellers, but is seen as a setback for customers. Industry analysts say that Flipkart’s earlier return and refund policy along with attractive discounts on products compared to the other online marketplace were the reason behind its popularity in the country, and now with the new policy, Flipkart may lose their customer base.

Earlier Flipkart had stopped refunds on high-end products like mobile phones, furniture and larger appliances. Meanwhile Flipkart's rival Amazon India continues to offer refunds/exchange across various product categories, except for mobile phones.

Flipkart will sell the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus online

Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are already available for purchase world-wide in select markets. As far as India is concerned, the new iPhones will be arriving on October 7. Now ahead of the launch, Apple has partnered with e-commerce giant Flipkart to sell its latest iPhones online.

Under the new partnership Flipkart will source the iPhone 7/ 7 Plus directly from Apple, instead of relying on third-party sellers to sell iPhone via its market place. It will sell Mac products as well officially. Previously only Infibeam was authorized to sell iPhone and iPad in the country online.

A dedicated micro-site is now live on both Flipkart and Infibeam. Both e-tailers are expected to open pre-orders for the new iPhones in early October. The new iPhones will also be available from Apple's authorized re-sellers across the country, and are already available for pre-order.

Last week Apple India revealed the pricing of all the new iPhone 7 models. The iPhone 7 32GB, 128GB and 256GB models are priced at Rs. 60,000, Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 80,000 respectively, while the iPhone 7Plus 32GB, 64GB and 128GB versions cost Rs. 72,000, Rs. 82,000 and Rs. 92,000 respectively.

Lenovo A2010 most affordable 4G phone now available without registration on Flipkart

Lenovo's most affordable smartphone in the India, A2010, will now be available without any registration via Flipkart. The phone hit the Indian market back in August for Rs. 4,990 and went on sale exclusively via Flipkart through flash sale on September 3.

It is not known how long the phone will be available through open sale, but its likely to be permanent. Notably, Lenovo's K3 Note, A6000 Plus and A7000 are also available without registration currently.

"A2010 is perhaps the most value for money LTE device in India. As per IDC’s Asia/ Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, Q2, 2015 (August 2015 release), Lenovo is the fifth largest smartphone brand with 4.4 per cent share of the Indian smartphone market in Q2 2015,” said Lenovo

Lenovo A2010 was launched in the country as the cheapest 4G phone, dethroning ZTE Blade Qlux 4G and Phicomm Energy 653 carrying the price tag 4,999. It is cheaper by mere Rs. 9.

The Android Lollipop-powered Lenovo A2010  comes with a compact 4.5-inch display. It comes with a 64-bit 1GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable memory, 5MP/2MP cameras, 4G LTW, dual-SIM slots, and a 2,000mAh battery.
