Xiaomi starts rolling out MIUI 6 global stable OTA update for Redmi 1s


Xiaomi announced a major upgrade to the MIUI ROM, MIUI 6 last year. The beta build was released in April this year for the Redmi 1s users in India.

Now, Xiaomi has started rolling out the stable MIUI 6 v6.6.1.0.KHCMICF update for the Redmi 1s. The update package is around 642MB and is now rolling over the air. If you have not been notified about the update, you can check it manually via updater app or flash the update by downloading this ROM.

The update brings lockscreen notifications, revamped camera app, new notification center and more along with a cleaner. Several known issues has also been fixed. There is also a flash notification light for incoming calls along with IVR (Interactive Voice Response) shortcut feature for India region.

Xiaomi Redmi 1s was launched in India with MIUI 5 which is based on the dated Android Jelly Bean. The latest version, MIUI 6 is based on Android KitKat. Earlier it was available for few devices including Mi 4, Mi 3, Redmi Note, Redmi Note 2 and MiPad. The company is also working on a new version of MIUI 6 based on Android Lollipop, but there is no word when they plan to release it.

Android Lollipop hits 10% of all Android devices


Google has released the Android distribution stats for the month of April. The numbers are saying that Android's latest 5.0 Lollipop is now present on almost 10 percent of Android devices ( Android 5.0 - 9.7% , Android 5.1 (0.3%). The data was collected during 7-day period ending May 4, 2015.

The latest data reveals that the Lollipop adaptation rate has doubled as compared to last months 5.4 percent. It is worth noting that in February Android Lollipop in February was present on 1.6% percent of devices and in March 3.3%.


Android KitKat is still on top, but is steadily going down. It is present in 39.8 percent of devices as compared to 41.4 percent last month- decrease of 1.6 percent.

Android Jelly Bean also dropped to 39.3% as compared to 40.7 percent last year. Android Ice Cream Sandwich has 5.3 share and Android Gingerbread shares are 5.7%. Lastly Android Froyo is still present on 0.3% of Android devices.

The latest data shows that Lollipop is appearing on more and more Android devices. This numbers could increase in the coming months as Android Lollipop is being rolled out to more devices.

Cube i6 Air 3G Is A Dual Boot Android And Windows Tablet, Priced At $230

The market is flooded with Windows and Android tablets but its very rear to see a tablet running both Android and Windows together. Recently, I wrote about "Duet", a coffee table which runs both Android and Windows.

Now, a chinese company via Geekbuying has started selling a tablet with dual-boot functionality which runs both Windows and Android. 

Tech website Lilliputing posted a hand-on review of the Cube i6 Air 3G that runs a pre-release version of Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4 KitKat. Note that the Windows 8.1 will be upgraded to full version when it starts shipping.

The Cube i6 Air 3G features a dedicated OS switch button, which is in the quick setting menu, that will allow users to switch between Android and Windows. However you will have to reboot the devive every time you switch the operating system.

The Cube i6 Air 3G features 9.7-inch (2040x1536 resolution) display, Intel Atom Z3635G Bay Trial chip, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 8000mAh battery and the usual suite of connectivity options. It is also equipped with 5-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera.

Micromax Canvas Hue Launched For Rs 10,999 In India

Micromax launched a budget Android smartphone in the Canvas series dubbed the Micromax Canvas Hue. The main highlight of the handset is its 3000mAh battery which can deliver battery battery back up of up to 30 days with the super saving mode.

Coming to the specs, the Canvas Hue features a 5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor coupled with a Mali 450 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB inbuilt storage with microSD card support upto 32GB. The handset runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat and will be updated to Android Lollipop in the near future.

Camera features include an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor and LED flash, the front facing camera is 2-megapixel. Connectivity options include dual-SIM slots, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-USB, 3.5mm audio jack and GPS.

The Micromax Canvas Hue, will be available in Gold and white colour variants via both online and offline stores starting January 16 for Rs.10,999 in India.

HTC Announce Entry-Level Desire 320 For U.K

HTC announced the successor to its entry level HTC Desire 310 - HTC Desire 320. HTC claims that the HTC Desire 320 delivers a quality experience for the budget conscious well beyond its entry-level model status and it boasts enhanced power and memory to enable more people to benefit from a quality smartphone experience that delivers the perfect balance between smart essentials and value.

Coming to the specs the HTC Desire 320 features a 4.5-inch FWVGA display and is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor paired with 1GB RAM with 4GB or 8GB internal storage (depending on region) The handset supports microSD card upto 32GB and runs Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC's sense UI on top.

Camera features include 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 0.3-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity features include 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and FM radio. The handset is powered by 2100mAh battery. It will be available in Vanilla White and Dark Grey colour options.

The HTC Desire 320 will be released in UK first and later in other markets. There is no word on the price yet.

Acer Announces Liquid Z410, A Budget-Friendly 4G Smartphone

Taiwanese brand Acer announced the budget-friendly 4G smartphone dubbed the Liquid Z410 ahead of CES 2015 Las Vegas. The main features of the device include the AcerRapid that allow users to access customizable actions using a single touch and the AcerEXTEND that enables one to have toatl control over their devices via a cable or wirelessly through PC.

Coming to the specs, the handset will feature a 4.5-inch IPS display with 245ppi and powered by a 64-bit  1.5Ghz Quad-core MediaTek processor paired with ARM Mali-T760. Other features include 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, DTS Studio sound. The handset wil run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. There is no details on the RAM, Internal storage and battery backup of the handset at the moment.

The Acer Z410 is priced at 129 Euros (Rs. 9,700; $150) and will be sold in EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) in February.

Xiaomi Redmi 2s Officially Announced In China


Xiaomi announced the successor to its Xiaomi Redmi 1S model - Redmi 2s in China. With its mid range specification the handset targets the entry level market segment.


The main feature of the handset the addition of 4G LTE connectivity and can be connected to 4G LTE network of China Unicom, China Telecom and China Mobile.

Coming to the specs, the Redmi 2s features a 4.7-inch HD IPS display with pixel density of 312ppi and is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz snapdragon 410 quad-core processor paired with Adreno 306 GPU and 1GB RAM with 8GB internal storage [microSD card support upto 32GB]. The handset runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top.

Camera features include an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Connectivity option features include dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS + GLONASS + Beidou positioning. The handset packs a 2,200mAh Li-Po battery. The Xiaomi Redmi 2S measures 134 x 67.21 x 9.2mm and weigh 132 grams.

Images Of Xiaomi Redmi 1s 4G Leaked

Earlier it was reported that, Xiaomi is expected to announce the Xiaomi Redmi 1s with 4G LTE support on January 4 in China. And Now First images of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S Dual LTE has leaked online. 

In the leaked images the Redmi 1s with 4G LTE support is compared with the Redmi 1s. The handsets sport the same design and the front side is identical but the Redmi 1s 4G is slightly taller. You can also notice that the icons for capacitive buttons below the screen have also been changed.

There is no official details of the new variant of the Redmi 1s but the device was spotted on TENAA certification and AnTuTu benchmark website. According to the website the 4G LTE variant of Redmi 1s features 4.7-inch HD display and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 LTE-enabled 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with Adreno 306 GPU paired with 1GB RAM with 8GB internal storage [micro SD card support upto 32GB]. The handset runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat with the MIUI skin.

Other features include an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front facing camera and 2200mAh battery. The device measures 134x67.21x9.2mm and weigh 132 grams. The dual-SIM phone is also listed to feature 4G LTE support on both SIM cards.

The handset support 4G LTE connectivity and could be connected to 4G LTE network of China Unicom, China Telecom and China Mobile. As said earlier the Xiaomi Redmi 1s 4G is expected to be announced on January 4 in China. 


Xolo Q700 Club Launched at Rs. 6,999 in India

Xolo has launched the company's latest smartphone dubbed Xolo Q700 club. The smartphone feature dual front-facing speakers with DTS sound. The smartphone is IP55 certified for protection against dust and water.

The Xolo Q700 Club features a 4.5-inch-FWGA IPS display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek  processor with Mali-400 MP2 GPU and is paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB inbuilt storage [microSD card support upto 32GB]. The handset is a dual-SIM device and it ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Camera features include 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Camera App is loaded with features like scene detection, face recongnition, panorama, geo tagging, best shot, smile shot and HDR options. Connectivity features include 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth. The Q700 club packs a 2000mAh battery.

Finally, the Xolo Q700 club comes pre-loaded with Hungama Music App that offers free unlimited music and video downloads for 3 months. The handset is priced at Rs.6,999 ($120) and will be available in black and white colour variants.

40,000 Units Of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G sold out on Flipkart in 6 seconds

The success story of Xiaomi continues in India. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G went on sale for the first time via Flipkart in India today. The sale began at 2pm and 40,000 units which were up for sale, went out of stock in just six seconds.

The announcement was made in Xiaomi's India Head Manu Kumar Jain on his Twitter account.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G was the second device to go on after Delhi High court lifted the ban on Xiaomi following Ericsson's allegation of copyright infringement.The terms specified allow the company to sell Qualcomm-powered smartphones in India until January 8th. The Qualcomm-powered Redmi 1s went on sale last week. The Redmi Note with 3G support was banned from selling, since it used a MediaTek chipset.

To recap, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display and is powered by quad-core 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU and paired with 2GB of RAM and 8GB Internal storage with microSD card suppot (upto 64GB). Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G to go on sale via Flipkart on December 30th in Inida, Registration Now Open

Following the ban lifted on Xiaomi, the Chinese company resumed its operations in India. Yesterday 50,000 units of the Redmi 1s went on flash sale via Flipkart and was out of stock in 30 minutes.

On Tuesday, Xiaomi announced that the Redmi Note 4G will be available in India through Flipkart via flash sale on December 30 at 2pm IST. There is no word on how many units will be up for purchase. The registration will begin from Tuesday 6pm IST via Flipkart.

The Redmi Note 4G will also be available in Airtel stores in six cities. Customers will have to register seperately to buy a Redmi Note 4G from Airtel outlets. The handset is listed on Airtel's website, and registrations are expected to open very soon.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Launched In India, To Go On Sale In January, Priced at Rs 64,900

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge has been launched in India. The Galaxy Note Edge was officially launched during IFA in September and had announced that the handset will be available in select markets. Later, Samsung confirmed that the handset was a limited edition concept and 1 million units of the Galaxy Note Edge will be available across the globe.

The handset uses Samsung's flexible-display technology. The display bends towards its right side. Adjoining the bent display is a 5.6-inch 2K resolution SUPER AMOLED screen while the secondary display bears a resolution of 160 pixels. The display on the side show several cool features like weather, time, music, email and more.

Coming to the internal specs The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is powered by a quad-core 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 processor coupled with Adreno 420 GPU and paired with 3GB RAM and 64GB inbuit storage. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Camera features include 16-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera. The camera function on the Galaxy Note Edge is like a stand-alone, point-and-shoot camera, as the shutter button appear on top when phone is held horizontally.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS/ Glonass, NFC, Bluetooth v4.0, IR LED, USB 2.0, and MHL 3.0. The handset is backed by 3000mAh battery. The device measures 151.3x82.4x8.3mm, weighs 174 grams. The Galaxy Note Edge also features an accelerometer, geo-magnetic sensor, gyroscope, RGB, IR-LED, proximity, barometer, hall sensor, finger scanner, UV, heart rate monitor.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be available in two colour variants - Charcol Black or Frost White. The handset will be available through select retailers starting first week of January for Rs. 64,900.

ASUS Pegasus X002 Launched In China

ASUS has launched a new smartphone, dubbed the ASUS Pegasus X002 in China. The name Pegasus is the original inspiration behind the company's name ASUS. The company says "ASUS takes its name from Pegasus, the winged horse in Greek mythology that symbolises wisdom and knowledge,"

The dual-SIM ASUS Pegasus X001 features a 5-inch HD display and is powered by a 64-bit quad-core 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6732 processor paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage with microSD card support (upto 64GB). The handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat with ZenUi on top.

Camera features include an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity options includes 4G TD-LTE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, and Micro-USB. The handset is backed by 2500mAh Li-Ion battery.

The Asus Pegasus X002 comes in four colour variants - Black, White, Red and Gold. The handset is up for pre-orders in China for CNY 799 (Rs. 8000 ; $130). There is no word when the device will be launched in other markets.

Huawei Ascend GX1 Launched in China

Huawei launched its new phablet dubbed the Ascend GX1 in China. The device was recently spotted in TENAA certification site and now its official.

The Huawei Ascend GX1 is a dual-SIM device which features a 6-inch HD IPS display and is powered by  a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage [microSD card suppot upto 32GB]. The device runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box.

Camera features include an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and GPS/ A-GPS. The phablet is powered by 3500mAh battery.

The Huaweii Ascend GX1 is priced at 1,590 Yuan ($255; Rs.16,000) and is available via Vmall, Huawei's official online store in China. There is no word yet on the global availability of the Ascend GX1.

Possible Xiaomi Redmi 2s Specifications Spotted on AnTuTu

Last week the alleged Redmi 2s was spotted on TENNA certification site. Now the device has been spotted once again on the AnTuTu benchmark database.

According to the bencmark website the device codenamed Xiaomi HM2014811, features a 4.7-inch HD display and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 LTE-enabled 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with Adreno 306 GPU and paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage. Camera features include an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera. The device runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat
Most of the specification of the device match the Redmi 1s profile except the processor, front camera, Android OS and LTE connectivity. The Redmi 1s featured a quad-core 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, 1.6-megapixel front camera, Android Jelly Bean OS and had no 4G connectivity.

ZTE Star 2 With System-Wide Voice Control Feature Launched in China

ZTE launched the next flagship of ZTE Star smartphone - The ZTE Star 2 in China. The ZTE Star 2 will feature a system-wide voice controls, that is functional even when the handset is offline and without any network connection.

The voice control allows users to make phone calls, unlocking the device, open third-party apps, play music, take photos and more. ZTE claims the technology offers a response rate of 1.2 seconds, with a 90% success rate even in noisy conditions.

Coming to the specs, the 4G LTE enabled ZTE Star 2 features a 5-inch full-HD display (441ppi pixel density) with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The device is powered by 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor paired with 2GB RAM and 16Gb internal storge with microSD card support. The device runs Android 4.4 KitKat  with MiFavor 3.0 UI on top. MiFavor 3.0 features a variety of icon, wallpaper and colour options. The handset is powered by a 2,300mAh battery.

Camera features include 13-megapixel rear camera with a Sony sensor and dual LED flash and 5-megapixel front facing camera with 88 degree wide lens. The camera can be controlled by voice, smile, timer and touch. Users can launch the camera application by drawing 'C' on the screen

The ZTE Star 2 is priced at CNY 2,499 (INR 25,000)  and will be available to purchase via online from December 18 in China. There is no details on the global availability of the device.

Huawei Honor 6 Plus with 5.5-inch full HD display launched in China

At a special event in Beijing, Huawei launched a larger version of its flagship Honor 6 smarphone, the Honor 6 Plus in China. The handset gets launched under the slogan,”Not Just Bigger“, which is an obvious take on the iPhone 6 Plus.

The Huawei Honor 6 Plus features 5.5-inch full-HD IPS display and is powered by an octa-core Kirin 925 processor, accompanied by a low-power I3 co-processor, a Mali T628 MP4 GPU paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card upto 128GB and 100GB of free cloud storage. The Honor 6 Plus runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Emotion 3.0 UI on top.

Camera features include dual 8-megapixel rear camera sensors which the company calls "symmetrical dual camera technology". The rear camera sensors can capture twice the light compared to a single sensor  and use SLR-grade ISP technology to let you refocus the captured images and adjust aperture from f/0.95 to f/16. In the front there is also an 8-megapixel camera.

Other features include G LTE Cat. 6 connectivity, an IR blaster and 3600mAh battery

The dual SIM Honor 6 Plus will come in two variants - 3G and 4G. The 3G variant will be available for a price of CNY 1,999 (Rs. 20,500 $320) and the 4G version will sell for CNY 2499 ($400). There is no details for the global availability of the handset.

Alleged Images of OnePlus One Mini Leaked

GizmoChina on Tuesday published two purported images of a “mini” OnePlus One. Also seen in one of the image is the specification of the handset via AnTuTu benchmarks

According to the benchmark profile the Mini OnePlus One will feature a 5-inch display, and will be powered a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. It appears that the phone will offer 8MP cameras at both the front and rear. The mini OnePlus One will run Android KitKat 4.4.4.
GizmoChina also reports that the device will be announced only in 2015 and will cost 1,499 RMB (15,000 INR, 245 USD) 

As nothing is confirmed , we should just wait for further information so it is advisable to take the news with a pinch of salt.

Lava Iris Fuel 60 with 4,000mAh battery Launched in India

 Lava launched the Iris Fuel 60 which packs a beefy 4,000mAh battery at an event in Delhi. According to the company, the Iris Fuel 60's battery delivers 32 hours of talktime on 2G networks and a quick-charge time of 3 hours 15 minutes.The handset also features gestures which includes Double Tap Wake-up' and 'Drawing Gesture Shortcuts'. Lava also tied up with Airtel to offer 500MB of free 3G data for two months to buyers.

Now coming to the specs, The dual SIM Lava Iris Fuel 60 sports a  5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage [microSD card support upto 32GB]. The handset runs Android KitKat 4.4 out of the box and is due for a Android 5.0 Lollipop update later OTA.

Camera features include 10-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v3.0, and USB OTG.

The Lava Iris Fuel 60 will be available from December 25 in Black and White colour variants for Rs. 8,888.

World's Slimmest Smartphone Vivo X5Max Launched in India

Chinese brand Vivo has officially launched the World's slimmest smartphone the X5Max in India. With just 4.75mm thickness, the X5Max has become world’s thinnest smartphone beating the Oppo R5. The handset was launched in China last week.

The thickness of the screen is just 1.36mm and it is using the industry's thinnest chasis of 3.98mm. The motherboard uses a unique "one-sided layout critical" to reduce the thickness to 1.77mm and also uses the thinnest speaker module sized at 2.45mm, coupled with YAMAHA’s YSS-205X sound chip.
